COVID-19: Greater Sydney & NSW Re-Opens

He has always been defensive. Every hard question he is asked he always just dishes up the usual ‘nothing is ever easy in a pandemic’ …

I think Andrew Clennell has analysed the situation well. The strategy is polling and popularity lead. And Gladys isn’t capable of conceding Dan Andrews strategy was right after 12 months of sniping comments towards Victoria and other states.

Never thought I would see Sky News report on a harder lockdown warranted for Greater Sydney.

The context is: this man, his family and doctor were presented with the risks of Covid and the risks of the vaccine. He (they) chose to go with the risks of Covid. That’s a personal choice.

But to pin the blame on NSW government…no.

Australia and NSW (even Gladys) has done a better job of keeping the virus at bay than just about anywhere in the world. Sydney had 300 cases today. When London was at 20% vaccination I was having 300 cases on my street here in Bayswater. Even the absolute worst politicians in Australia have done 1000 times better than our BEST politicians in Europe at protecting lives. But they cant protect every single life.

And on mute you go. Bye!

But they really had no choice. It was either possible death by COVID (which unfortunately happened) or possible death by the vaccine due to the reasons. It’s not like they don’t want the vaccine.

Seems like in your books they can’t win either way, especially from the way you commented about it as if they deserved little sympathy.

ABC are reporting that Dubbo may go into a snap lockdown after a case has been confirmed there.

So much for Gladys’ claim a couple weeks ago that the regions were being spared from spread.

According to the ABC, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District has confirmed two patients admitted to the Nepean Mental Health Centre in Sydney’s west have tested positive to COVID-19. It says there are also additional cases of COVID-19 that have been identified as linked to the two cases.

There were two more COVID-related deaths: a man in his 30s from northern Sydney died at Northern Beaches Hospital, and a man in his 90s from south west Sydney died at Concord Hospital.

112 cases were from south west Sydney, 110 from western Sydney, one each from northern NSW and Illawarra Shoalhaven, two from Central Coast and 14 from Hunter New England health district. 11 of 14 cases in Hunter New England are linked to previously reported cases, and the source of three cases is still under investigation. Seven of these cases are in the Newcastle area, six are in Lake Macquarie, and one is in the Maitland area. Total number of cases in the area now stands at 53.

Gladys said Armidale, Tamworth and Northern Rivers regions all had no new cases overnight.

NSW Health confirms that Dubbo LGA will go into lockdown at 1pm today until midnight August 19, after two positive COVID cases in the area (members of the same household) which will be included in Thursday’s numbers.

Record highs for nsw but hopefully the record highs in vaccination keeps going and increasing.

Perhaps the settings in 8 LGAs should be extended everywhere?

^^

What I’ve been saying the whole time. The risk is not just in Sydney now.

It’s really dumb the regions areas going through this it was so bloody preventable.

Such negligence and laziness on the government’s part to let this happen.

Okay, thanks. I don’t tune in to NSW pressers regularly, but from what I’d seen, it was mostly just Gladys, Brad and Kerry.

He’s pretty much useless anyway.

Though he would be (a slightly, and ever so slightly) better person to front the press conference than that woeful Brad Hazzard.

I’d rather see less politicians and more medical experts at these things - these press conferences are a good opportunity to educate people.

Earlier in the week the NSW conference had an ICU specialist speak - while it was a little confronting, its was important to hear
