This inquiry shows that Dr Chant is about 10 classes above Hazzard. She accepted that they’ve got it wrong, and wished they went earlier with the benefit of hindsight. Hazzard on the other hand was disruptive, useless and defensive.
Chant should’ve been given more powers like Sutton has in Victoria. She at least recognises the situation as dire. Brad Hazzard needs to go.
The minutes of the meetings should be released it would make for very interesting reading. Hazzard needs to go I agree, he is aggrogant has never worked in health so doesn’t understand what needs to be done.
I want Chant to provide details on what has actually happened presumably she was overruled by the government. But for that to happen she would probably have to resign.
I’m not sure Kerry Chant comes across all that well. She shouldn’t have needed the benefit of hindsight to tackle delta. By June delta was well known, if not from overseas they could have seen the fleeting transmission in Melbourne in the May outbreak. It should be her job and responsibility to be aware of it, negligent if she wasn’t.
People have died as they were not vaccinated - I think all of the 27 deaths were unvaccinated people - all but 1 or 2 were from groups of ages groups that could have been vaccinated
Yea. Arrivals caps in the hundreds. Ban on leaving. Stay at home order. Travel limits from your home. Exemptions not made to see births / dying loved ones. Hotel quarantine. 6 weeks in no end in sight This is one of the most draconian lockdowns in the world.
The case numbers can’t continue to climb. So once we hit 500 what happens? Nothing? As we edge closer to the four figures what exactly is the government going to do?
Does the state just sit in the 1000 range until they reach such vaccination levels? Is that acceptable?
How can you blame someone for following their GP’s advice?
Maybe the GP was wrong, but we don’t know all the ins and outs of that patient’s medical history, and I don’t know about you, but I am not an MD.
There are always a few people who can’t get vaccinated, plus everyone under 12 years old (for whom there is no approved vaccine yet), but that’s not a reason to blame them.
Focus the blame where it belongs: On the politicians & media who overstated the risk from the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, ignorant over-60s who are still ‘waiting’ for a different vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech), and Morrison who comprehensively botched the vaccine procurement & rollout (look at how few aged care workers were vaccinated even though the federal government’s aged care vaccination programme was meant to cover them).
For me as much as I won’t like it they should be doing far more. Implement ring of steal, etc we can’t have the numbers going up. Get rid of the restrictions in the 9 LGAs make them state wide until the end of the month. I am sure the cases will go down under more strict measures state wide.
1000 cases a few weeks ago didn’t really seem realistic. It’s very bloody real now and they need to get a wriggle on.
The issue is 1000 in a week or two really will cause problems in September and October as I still wouldn’t expect much impact from vaccination targets, especially in September.
They are setting themselves up for failure in September. This cannot takeoff, but I just feel like the stubbornness on display, it’s about to.
The Federal website that checks eligibility is shit - it doesn’t list all the locations that can vaccinate
Only some pharmacies are listed
The website encourages you to book online, but the online booking is terrible or it says that you can book online, but when you go to the book says you cant
A lot of GPs had listed AZ for under 60, then removed them, then added them back - it’s becoming inconsistent (this seems to be linked to the failure for the Feds to actually implement the indemnity system)
GPs (in particular) are saying they have plenty of availability, but they aren’t promoting this anywhere
Some GPs with availability (especially in regional areas) will only vaccinate people that are on their books - doesn’t help that these GPs are more than likely to have closed books as well.
Who knows what 2 weeks will bring. This delta variant has been so strange. Taiwan, for example, was getting 500 cases one week to getting under 100 2-3 weeks later and the having it under control the following week. The Netherlands had a much more stranger response dropping 7000 cases in the space of 2 weeks. Even in India the peak only lasted a few weeks before dropping quite suddenly and rapidly. Who knows what will happen in NSWs in 2-3 weeks time. Maybe we are currently seeing that same peak other nations have seen and we will start to see the drop as well.
The fact we’re seeing no improvement amongst the federally administered (GP/Pharmacies) side of things in terms of ease of access and promotion of availability is a huge worry. I suspect we are going to see some pretty bad vaccine wastage numbers if things don’t improve real soon.
Don’t be a callous prick - there is a significant difference between choosing not to get vaccinated and not getting vaccinated on medical advice/condition
Taiwan also made their people wear masks in the home. They do as they are told and did that. Was much more emphasis on not leaving the home also and they put rules in place to achieve that.
Imagine the outcry if they made the residents of this country wear a mask in the home.
