COVID-19: Essential Shopping/Retail (Supermarkets, Food, Jigsaws etc)

All Coles and Woolworths have both underpants and socks, and usually have Bonds or own brand T-shirts.

I have actually never used Bunnings online, and just having a look, truly terrible. I just assumed it’s the same as everyone else. It’s like they are 10 years behind.

Prices for pork and chicken will go up significantly across Melbourne with a possible cull and the need to bringing in more meat from interstate.

what is so odd about it?

Bunnings online doesn’t appear to be too bad. They only just implemented fully online ordering (click and collect) over the past year - they’d have been well and truly boned without it.

Same with Repco. They came into the game really late and now they have the best online systems available out of all the auto stores - even better than SuperCheap Auto who already had one.

They were very late to the party and the skin of the site is a bit tired / old, but it is fully functional.

After putting product limit restrictions on 50 product categories last week in their Victoria stores, Woolworths will now ease product limits on 40 of those categories from tomorrow after seeing a decline in sales.

There’s no panic buying anywhere. My Woolworths and cokes have everything. I think more people are doing the complete opposite of panic buying and are seeing the supermarket as an outing now so are going 2-3 times a week and buying less each time over one big shop.

Since stage 4 lockdown began less people have been shopping at my local Woolworths and Coles. Although I noticed shortage of some meat and vegetables on the shelves.

In-store sales plummeted as shops closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and Premier refused to pay rent for the closed shops … as Premier raked in tens of millions in JobKeeper payments for staff who were stood down and online sales soared by 70% in the first six months of 2020.

Victorian Kmart, Target and Catch.com.au employees will continue to get paid regardless whether they have hours to work.

I can guarantee you there is more than enough work for everyone to work their full hours, click and collect has gone through the roof and they are struggling to keep up.

Supermarkets in Metropolitan Melbourne will now close at 8:30pm from tomorrow evening due to curfew now starting at 9:00pm instead of 8:00pm.

It’s a similar story at BIG W.

We get 100+ orders an hour, we have more than enough staff to “pick” the orders. The issue we have is that “packing” and readying the orders for collection is not a streamlined process. The reason ? While we easily have the staff to cover it, we have ONE computer to process the order as ready to collect for the customer.

I’ve had mixed experiences with Click and Collect at different stores. The concept works if you can go and get it the same day but not everyone does. Bunnings for example is such a process. You order online, then wait 1-2 days to get an email to book a time to pick up. It put me off wanting to do it again. Then I did JB Hi Fi where I got an email within 30 minutes saying it was ready to collect. I literally just parked in the carpark, open boot, called them and they come and and put it in. Now that was a good experience.

I hope once restrictions ease nationally on retail that curbside click and collect is made optional again, I’ve found that it takes way more time than just entering into the store and grabbing it yourself.
