COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

I didn’t they did anyway.

QLD Update; no new locally acquired cases detected overnight. 2 in HQ.

Tightening of restrictions for crossing border to Moree for 7days. Will send supplies across the border, so people don’t have to cross. Lots of unvaccinated cases across the border from Goondiwindi but no restrictions in the general community. Goondiwindi will have visitor restrictions to vulnerable settings like aged care and hospitals this weekend.

Goondiwindi is a highly vaccinated community - +90% single, +80% double. Goondiwindi is the “best place” in Queensland for a COVID-19 outbreak to take place, according to AMAQ vice-president .

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said this morning that the state is “very well placed” to hit its vaccination target of 90% fully vaccinated by the first week of December.

WA border restrictions will ease at 90%. Date to be set once 80% is reached (likely December). Opening date likely to be late Jan/early Feb if current rates continue.

At that point quarantine will be scrapped for everyone fully vaccinated. Negative test required prior to entry.

Remote areas of WA may remain closed off until the individual regions reach 90%.

Proof of vaccination will be required at large events.

With no current outbreak, I feel like WA is going to struggle hitting a 90% rate and this opening date is only going to be further pushed back.

They will need to bring in mandatory vaccination in some setting and industries to reach 90%.

Not like I didn’t want a third Christmas without any family, anyway. Thanks Marky.

Not sure why you were expecting this Christmas. Everything he has said indicated that was never going to happen. It was always going to be early next year.

Another plan that goes against the national plan. Again Scott Morrison has failed to get states to agree to a plan

Calm down. Im having a mild vent on the back of the announcement.

Unfortunately, I feel like WA is going to be very set back as a state from this announcement today.

It was just clarified that once the opening date is announced (at 80%) if 90% isn’t reached by that date then opening would still happen but with restrictions.

Why is the vaccine mandate deadlines so far into the future in WA? The decision has been made to have mandates, why drag it out so long?

Vic and NSW had a massive vaccinating week in the lead up to their deadlines, WA would too. people respond to deadlines, perhaps even more so in WA where there isn’t any other reason for urgency without a lockdown or outbreak to incentivise people.

I really don’t know… clearly it’s political .

WAs health system should be able to cope with 80%? If not, then that’s a major concern.

The roadmap is a big blow for a number of WA regions like Broome, which probably won’t be able to receive tourists from NSW and Victoria during the upcoming summer school holiday.

The effects on sporting competitions are worth discussing in the relevant thread.

Vaccination rates in the north west are well below where they need to be. Some are only at 25%. Letting COVID get up there would be a disaster.

Unless anything changes I see Perth and the south west opening as planned but the north west will remain isolated. There is a huge vulnerable population up there and the Police Commissioner said he is very concerned about that region.

What’s happing with interstate summer sports? Big Bash / Ashes / Tennis / Soccer etc?

I’m assuming these events are now being re-directed to other states?

While saying they aren’t a priority both the Premier and Commissioner said WA has been able to host sport throughout the pandemic without much trouble. So nothing to say they could go ahead but nothing to say they won’t either.
