I’m not. I think part of the conversation with New Zealand was that there be consistency with border closures.
We were always going to have a slow start (despite what the Politicians were spinning) - the logistics of getting the vaccines out is complex and until such time as the locally produced vaccines were able to be distributed we were going to be constrained by low numbers.
The Age live blog adds:
Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath has hit back at suggestions the 14-day quarantine directions for those who had been in Perth since April 17 were too strict, saying all states and territories except NSW had imposed them.
“I can’t see how it’s over-reaction … every other state and territory other than New South Wales is putting in place similar measures to Queensland,” Ms D’Ath said. “We’ve said up to 14 days [people will need to stay in quarantine], as we have seen before.”
“If Western Australia lifts their lockdown in three days and there’s no more community transmission, we will take the advice of the Chief Health Officer as to whether we need to continue the quarantine.”
She said those who were already on flights when the travel restrictions were announced would have their quarantine bill covered by the state, while anyone who chose to board a flight after would have to cover the cost themselves.
The Victorian Department of Health has issued an urgent COVID-19 alert to staff and students at Melbourne’s Caulfield South Primary School, asking them to quarantine.
1]Commander Weimer says there is a number of potential extended secondary exposure sites and Caufield south primary school has been discontinued purly as they have negative test result from one of the individuals already. so through contact tracing of the passangers on the plan well identify potentional secondary sites and as negative tests results come through we discard those sites from the enquiry. there was a person on the flight who was connected to Caufield south primary school and because of a negative test there not worried about exposure at the school.
- we now know the gentleman who is the acquired interstate case which we all know about by now lives in Burwood. He received a message from wa health as he arrived at Melbourne airport to advise him he was a primary close contact. he immediately wore a mask and isolated himself. his wife picked him up. he isolated at home. the family stayed within their house. one household member made one trip. all of the household members have tested negative so no further exposer sites there is one expose site however which the VIC dept of health has already listed and I have posted this above. and all 4 are isolating for 14days backdated to wednesday
whether or not this does end our days of local transmission is up to the epidemiologists. as the DHS is treating this as an interstate acquired case. and this point in time the DHS is treading this as 56or 57 days without local transmission and in regard to the eagles vs cats games. recent arrivales from perth must have been testd and received a negative test result in the last 24 hours
WA must do things differntely then here in VIC regarding health directions. in WA the police commender must be neeed to sign off to make them legal where in vic there is a legal team that signs off the CHO health directions
I watched the Breaking News of Perth Lockdown on 9Now. Just Heard from WA Minister of Health, Roger Cook that:
- SafeWA App use increased by 30% yesterday.
- More than 4000 WA were tested
- Those who left Perth and Peel Region last night must wear masks.

Victoria has been notified of 2 cases of coronavirus since yesterday.
One is the case announced yesterday that was acquired interstate by a man aged in his 50s.
The other new case is a woman aged in her 50s who is a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine.
This is the 57th day in a row that no new cases have been acquired in Victoria.
The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 20,508.
Victoria has designated metropolitan Perth and the Peel region as red zones under Victoria’s travel permit system, effective from 2:01am this morning.
Only Victorian residents travelling from the red zones are allowed to return to Victoria. They must apply for a red zone travel permit and will be required to quarantine for 14 days.
Non-Victorian residents will not be permitted into Victoria. Authorised officers at airports will be checking all arriving Perth aircraft for appropriate permits. Anyone not complying will be housed in Hotel Quarantine until a return flight can be arranged.
Anyone who has arrived into Victoria from Perth and the Peel region from 17 April until red zones came into effect must isolate, get tested, and stay isolated until negative.
Using travel permit data, Victorian health officials have contacted 5,442 people who are now considered orange zone arrivals advising them of their obligations to isolate and test.
That contact work continues now Victoria has obtained flight manifests from the National Incident Room.
We strongly remind all Australians that they are obligated to obtain a permit, exemption or exception to enter Victoria. For more information, visit Service Victoria.
Update: Interstate acquired case
Yesterday, the Department of Health received notification of a positive COVID-19 result linked to a Hotel Quarantine facility in Perth.
Four household and social contacts are associated with this case – the individual’s spouse, his two children, and a friend of one child.
All have had an initial negative COVID-19 test. They will remain in quarantine for 14 days.
The Department will continue to manage the public health actions associated with this case and will continue to monitor the situation in Western Australia.
The Department has listed the following as a Tier 1 exposure site:
- Qantas flight QF778 from Perth to Melbourne on Wednesday 21 April
The Department has contacted all 265 individuals from this flight, including passengers, crew and ground crew, using information obtained from comprehensive flight manifest data, and border permits.
Testing is underway for people linked to the flight. So far, 49 have returned negative test results.
If you were on this flight, you must isolate, get tested and remain isolated for 14 days – unless otherwise formally advised by the Department of Health.
The Department has listed the following as a Tier 2 exposure site:
- Melbourne Airport Terminal One between 7pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 21 April
This exposure time has been reduced by 30 minutes since yesterday following further investigations by Victorian public health officials.
Anyone who was at this location during these times must isolate, get tested and remain isolated until they get a negative result.
Further locations – including those within the airport – may be classified as exposure sites based on ongoing investigations.
Anyone who has been to a Western Australian exposure site during the time frame of interest should immediately quarantine and contact the Victorian Department of Health on 1300 651 160.
Late update. 1 new community case in Perth. A person who was at one of the restaurants. Not a good sign.
That bloody Melbourne fella needs a good floggin. I have family in Perth.
It’s a good sign they have caught them.
Why? It wasn’t his fault.
VIC’s latest numbers-
India set a new global daily record of infections for the third straight day with 346,786 new cases.
