COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Plenty of notice in Qld. I was recently able to complete my holiday in Byron Bay and still get home without any problem. In the days prior they advise residents to consider carefully any travel out of the state. In other words, indicating closures are likely soon. Then usually give a few days official notice. Pretty reasonable given the times we’re living in.
You just have to listen to the advice.

She really thinks she’s above the other state leaders.
Yet she’s the only one in the country still dealing with ongoing outbreaks.

… and that’s during a time where she was the only one that had a long term lockdown. She’s also had 3 breaches of hotel quarantine in the last 2 months, testing numbers a not great, and soon she won’t have the heavy lifting with international intake excuse, (which was always exaggerated if you look at intake per capita).

ever since the victorian outbreak, NSW has been the worst performing state. they really should get off their high horse.

Well I think we have finally got an indication of what strategy we have here in Australia. Mark McGowan said the following:

"The Queensland approach, the Victorian approach, is the right approach. We need to eliminate the virus from Australia.

So the issue is that the states are divided on the strategy.

Israel one of the biggest hotspots in the world right now, their daily cases per capita are worse than america’s. Surely this child contracted it at the airport in Israel.

So if I’ve understood correctly the child travelled to Israel in the days after attending the childcare, then tested positive on arrival? If so more than likely contracted during travel. There are no direct flights from Australia to Israel so it’s quite a trip. I had to take 3 flights to get there in 2019. So much more likely at an airport or on a flight than in Melbourne.

It would be good to see a traffic light system for international travel when it does recommence, or for international students mid-year. ie:

Green Countries, negligible risk - eg New Zealand - free travel without any iso.
Yellow Countries, low risk - eg Taiwan, Vietnam, Fiji - must be vaccinated, 7 day home quarantine with testing.
Orange Countries, medium risk - eg China, HK, Iceland, Singapore, Qatar, Sri lanka, Thailand - must be vaccinated, 14day hotel quarantine with testing.
Red Countries, High Risk - eg. mainland Europe, Japan - needs a case by case assessed permit for critical travel only, must be vaccinated and do 14 days hotel quarantine
Black Countries, Forget about it - eg. USA, UK - all flights banned.

Wow that is a lot of tweets…

That childcare test is suspected to come back as a false positive as its a rapid test.

I think Victoria’s travel permit system is a great idea. However, I am a bit worried that any returning Victorian resident that has visited a ‘Red Zone’ will lie on the permit. They can easily say they’re arriving from a ‘Orange Zone’ or ‘Green Zone’ to get back into the state. You’d hope that they will tell the truth though. If it was me I certainly wouldn’t like to receive a $4,957 fine.

I guess it’ll be a bit hard for interstate arrivals to lie on the permit upon entry as you’d more than likely need to show ID with a residential address.
