COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Ok, just re-read this several times, a little clearer than emotive posts in social media.

It was eventually made crystal clear though, if you were in the queues at cut off time you would be allowed back. Short notice, but reasonable to make a decision and get back.

Not if travelling by air. All flights were sold out in minutes.

I understand by Victoria closed their border. The government would lack confidence in their systems and processes after the 2nd wave. If they have another catastrophic failure again, Victorians will surely turn on the government.

Sure thing, more like they’re a little nervous about how NSW are handling the pandemic and following the national cabinet decisions which has seen numerous border closures.

I understand there were very few flights anyway which would make that extremely difficult, still if you really had to, you’d make it back somehow.

Has Vic got its new Salesforce contact tracing platform up and running yet?

Yes. Since early September.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Travellers from Victoria seeded a huge number of cases in NSW last July/August which was met with a very measured response, ie not throwing up any border restrictions until it became clear that the situation was well and truly out of control and even then never a hard border.

The rest of Australia made it clear in 2020 that it was every state for itself in this pandemic. NSW has as much right as any other state to adopt the strategy of its choosing, and it’s clear that the NSW strategy is highly effective.

As a Sydneysider I would much, much prefer to live with some minimal restrictions for a few months (ie mass gatherings, masks indoors etc) than to have to spend any sort of time in a hard lockdown again.

This virus will be around for at least 2021, probably beyond. We have to find a way to live our lives.

I think it’s more to do with other states not being so confident in NSWs approach at the moment, especially when the virus has now spilled over into Victoria. Hence why Victoria and other states have now closed their borders completely to NSWs.

Also, the slow uptake on wearing masks and still allowing 25k to attend a test match doesn’t help the situation.

NSW and Victoria previously stated they had a suppression strategy, rather than elimination.

Vic seems to have changed to an elimination strategy, probably due to their lack of confidence to achieve suppression.

This brings Vic in line with other states - hence the border closures - and leaves NSW as the only state with a suppression strategy.

Correct, Victoria and the other states have now obtained a “go fast, go hard” approach with this virus, where NSWs hasn’t.

I guess if you repeat this often enough you’ll believe it.

Seems this upset someone, apologies for highlighting blatant unverified hypocrisy.

Surely we’re not still talking about suppression? The only person in Australia that still thinks we are targeting suppression is ScoMo. Even in nsw. There is no way Gladys would put northern beaches into lockdown if her only goal was to suppress the numbers below ICU capacity. She might not be as hardcore as other premiers, but she is still targeting elimination.

Victoria’s latest numbers -

If the three new cases are linked to the Black Rock outbreak, this is great news. Hopefully this outbreak is now under control.

Acting Premier Jacinta Allan and DHHS Testing Commander Jeroen Weimar are due to speak at 10am.

Wow very relieved to see the low number today. It seems to have been handled very well if these are all directly linked. Hopefully we only get a small trickle of cases in close contacts in the coming days.

Today’s three new cases in Victoria are linked to the Black Rock outbreak. The cluster now stands at 21.

  • 13 of those are directly linked
  • 8 are close contacts

Yes, good news coming out of Victoria this morning.

Still no positives from any of the exposure locations which is good. All either attended the cafe or are very close contacts of those over the Xmas period.

The differences between the treatment from the Sydney journos vs the Melbourne journos is alarming.
