COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

This is just from the SMH. Regional I assume places like Melton etc…or potentially Geelong.

Melbourne and parts of regional Victoria are expected to be ordered back into lockdown on Tuesday after the state reported 191 new cases of COVID-19.

Sources close to Tuesday’s cabinet discussions have confirmed that schools in affected areas will not re-open their doors again for term three as planned on Monday with hundreds of thousands of children to go back to distance learning, except for senior secondary students and special schools.

Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to re-impose ‘stage 3’ restrictions on Tuesday afternoon, preventing Victorians from leaving their homes for any purpose other than work, food, exercise or medical care.

It is unclear which regional areas will join Melbourne in lockdown, or where the boundaries of the metropolitan area will be drawn, with Mr Andrews expected to deliver the full details of the move when he addresses the media on Tuesday afternoon.
The new lockdown is expected to be in place for at least six weeks, and some school children could also be at home for the same period of timeIt is also expected that school holidays will be pushed out by at least three days and there will be two student-free days to allow teachers and schools to prepare for an undetermined period of distance learning. When children eventually return to their classrooms, it is likely to be a staggered process, beginning with prep and grades 1 and 2.

However, senior secondary students and special schools, which had difficulty during the last period of learning, are expected to return to school as planned next week.

If we were going to have lockdowns Melbourne wide I wish they just imposed this last week and got it done. The last week has been a mind fuck with these big announcements every couple of days. I don’t know how the numbers have got so out of control.

Time for one more gym workout before it’s home workouts again. Here we go.

so since there is going to be a melbourne wide lockdown that does mean the vline trains will be stoped from going to southern cross station? since it will be work from home if you can?

There has been nothing on V/Line website even regarding the closure of NSW-Victorian border, only saying that there will be no direct train today between Melbourne and Albury.

Meanwhile, South Australia will introduce a hard closure of its border with Victoria from midnight tonight.

Exemptions will be granted to those who are identified and approved as essential travellers, but (Police Commissioner Grant) Stevens has warned strict criteria will apply.

Those deemed essential travellers may be required to comply with certain restrictions, including quarantine requirements.

In other words, trucks travelling between the two states will also be affected with drivers having to comply with additional rules. It could mean delivery of goods and fresh food will be delayed.

Reading from the sheet above, stay at home orders are same as previous stage 3. Differences are: no visitors allowed at home, hairdressers will be allowed to open, people won’t be allowed to leave or enter metropolitan Melbourne and Shire of Mitchell for exercise.

The municipalities included in the new order are:

Six weeks is longer than I was expecting. Massive news.

You’re editoralising the information / taking it out of context, it’s likely to be no different to the existing SA border closure that has been present for months now. Essential travelers will no doubt include freight as it always has since the borders were closed.

It’s good that Yr 10-12 get to go back to school, they should be prioritised over the other students.

is the school thing only for the lockdown or is it state wide?

My mistake, I mean just metropolitan and one shire in Regional Victoria. The school holidays will be one week longer, but all teaching staff will go back to school to plan for online school. The school closures will last 6 weeks, and then they will plan if it’s good to open up again.

Hopefully the General Public who have been doing the wrong thing now realise how serious it is.

People were calling for restrictions to be eased and now look. They have only got themselves to blame. Don’t blame the Government on this one for your wrong doing.
