well how about if those suburbs stay in stage 2 like we are all in now and the rest of victoria including the other parts of melbourne then move to stage 2 b rewind , then move on to stage 3 and beyond . then and only if the cases in the hotspots come down they can follow suit?
Yeah but if you keep them on lower restrictions it will encourage people to leave those areas. There is a clear issue in these suburbs. Lockdown might not do anything to be honest it might get people angry and not wanting to comply⌠but a higher continued police and testing presence in the areas mightâŚ
In context 23,000 tests and 41 positives is still only a 0.17% positive rate. Thatâs still very low in such targeted testing in a known area with outbreaks. When looking at worldometer earlier almost every country above us or with similar numbers in total cases is recording at least that number (or more) in the past day. Itâs just annoying when the rest of Australia is doing so well and this problem is linked to small numbers of people in certain areas that just donât seem to take things seriously.
Well said⌠hopefully we see a decline very soon.
There are reports of many people still returning to Australia from overseas, and a significant proportion of them will be COVID 19 positive.
SA is expecting 25 cases next week from a flight of 300 people returning from India, and there are other similar reports. These people will of course go into quarantine. And the suggestions today are in most states there will be mandatory testing before the traveller is allowed to leaveâŚ

I think much of the toilet paper panic happening in Sydney is because the Victorian border is still open, with the high risk that some dickheads from Melbourneâs outer suburbs could come up here, not self-isolate, and start spreading the virus among the community in Sydney. At the very least, there should be some restrictions on movement between the two capital cities.
its happening here in victoria in fact all over
It surprises me that the toilet paper panic has flowed through to other states. I went to my local Coles yesterday afternoon in inner south east Melb and there definitely was not a shortage. The whole aisle was over packed and looking around I didnât see many people with toilet paper. My local IGA was fully stocked a few days ago too. So I think the panic is maybe in some areas or certain stores but nowhere near as crazy as last time. The media want us to think it is.
I also went into the Melb CBD last night for the first time since March. It was a ghost town, Flinders Street station barely a person in sight at what would normally be one of the busiest. These CBD businesses would be hit the hardest. Even most restaurants in city looked to struggle to have the 20 customers as people are picking more local if they do. Iâm not sure if last night was a bit more quiet than recent weeks as some people are being more cautious with the spike, but most people I know donât seem too concerned (unless they live in the west) and are still doing what they can just with the usual extra precautions.
49 new cases in Victoria overnight
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said this morning that everyone in hotel quarantine would now be compulsorily tested for COVID-19. Anyone who refused the test will be forced to stay in the hotel for another ten days.
Goes to show how the media can spread misinformation. Dan also said much of those who ârefusedâ testing were made up of parents not wanting their young children to take the up the nose swab. Now that the saliva test is available, he expects 100% of quarantined travellers to be tested.

It is believed a security guard at the quarantine hotel became infected and spread it other guards by sharing a cigarette lighter and then through carpooling spread it further into the community.
âapparently innocent thingâ. No. He should be reinforcing that Medical authorities warn that smoking is a health hazard.
The numbers arenât surprising to anyone as they do the blitz. The good thing is that they still seem to mostly be in those known hotspots. We can only hope this really raises awareness to people in those areas.
The media keep saying âbiggest spike in 3 monthsâ etc. Youâve got to remember though back in March when these sorts of numbers were reported there were like 2-3k tests per day⌠So there were probably more cases out there then We are pushing close to 25k a day now and getting a low positive rate (percentage wise). Expect a couple more days of similar numbers and then letâs hope it starts to drop off during the week.
The response by the VIC government to try and get on top of this has been great. This could have full blown exploded but to have some of the highest and most targetted testing in the world is how we are going to stop explosions going forward.
Other states are celebrating low cases yet they probably havenât had a high amount of testing like Victoria. Youâd probably find if they tested a lot more, they would have a higher level of cases
Maybe NSW but very highly unlikely in other states as there has been zero evidence of community transmission for well over a month or more in all other states and territories (almost all new cases outside of VIC and NSW have been quarantined overseas travellers or those that are not normally citizens of the state e.g the livestock carrier in WA). You might see the historical case numbers rise depending on what tests theyâd administer.
Most states are reporting increasing tests, but not as frequently as NSW/VIC (I suspect given the minimal number of cases, theyâve wound back some of their reporting frequencies)
NSW and VIC are testing similar numbers of people a day (+/- a few thousand)
Overall similar but testing in Victoria has ramped up significantly in the past week above NSW. NSW had 87,000 tests last week (Source). Victoria has had a similar number in just the last 4 days with ~20,000 per day at the moment.
Another jump in numbers.
71!
Time to get the hacksaw out and chop Victoria off from South Australia and NSW and push it out into the TasmanâŚ
