COVID-19: Discussion (2022 Onwards)

We have ordered some from Chemist Warehouse which we have recvd an update saying they’ve been shipped so have to see if they get here.

Tip is to just keep checking their website. They seem to upload batches at a time but they sell pretty quick.

I ordered mine from Healthy Life (which I found out is owned by Woolworths) on Boxing Day - they arrived yesterday

Only 71,000 tests in last 24 hours in NSW? That’s about half of what we were seeing.

Given RATs are in short supply, I am wondering if people have also given up on PCRs given the long queues we were having? Or hopefully, does this mean we have reached the peak? (and now that last 3 days are all well below the high of 45,000 new infections).

I suspect so - its not just the time to get tested, but the ridiculous timeframes to get results back too

Andrew’s returned from leave today which means the return of the media trying to get a gotcha moment and asking ridiculous questions in press conferences.

Are NSW the only state not including rapid tests in official numbers?

RATs arent being counted yet - supposedly the functionality will be added to Service NSW by the end of the week

I heard part of the delay is around the request from NSW Health to make it mandatory to report a positive rapid test, theres a little bit of work going on to work out how that will actually operate

I love it when that reporter, Rachel grills him.

… said no one ever.

Given she just had covid I hope she had a negative test result before attending the press conference

I’ve got colleagues now in day 7 and 8, still no result. Then it took them 2/3 days to even access to a PCR. Not only would the swap probably now be rendered useless (?), the person has already come out the other side of Covid before they even get the result back.

I think travel testing has died off too, seems to be a shift in travel vs a fortnight ago, people pulling out or not risking it now. Airlines have really pulled back schedules at the moment.

Controversial Opinion time!

The fact that it’s 100% user reported is a big part of the problem, it just doesn’t work effectively with the sheer number of retailers of RATs that exist alongside the masses who will take a random website as gospel (many years spent working in retail back in my younger days has me traumatised by but the website said you have stock interactions with customers)

Another issue I’ve seen is there’s been a couple of instances of immature people pulling a prank and listing someone’s home address as having RATs in stock, often at something ridiculous like $50 or $100 per test.

It’s a good idea in theory but feel it potentially causes more trouble than it solves.

Queensland recorded 20,000 new daily cases for the first time.

ACT are not reporting RAT numbers just yet either.

As has been widely reported, over half of yesterday’s daily numbers were left out due to a software glitch and have been added into today’s count.
