Sorry my post wasn’t to discuss the validity of the ACT or Canberra just to discuss whether it’s generating discussion. I appreciate Johnson’s posts outlining the cases. I’d probably see them more often in the impact thread.

Friday 24 September -
19 new cases reported to 8pm last night, including a fully-vaccinated aged care worker. Four of the new cases were in quarantine for their infectious period and at least 13 were infectious in the community. 12 cases have been linked to previous cases and the remainder are still under investigation.
Over 83.5% of Canberra’s 12+ population have a first dose of COVID vaccine.

Saturday 25 September -
32 cases reported, equalling the highest daily number recorded in the territory since the latest outbreak began. Seven cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period and at least 24 were infectious in the community. Of these, 24 cases have been linked to previous cases.

Sunday 26 September -
25 new cases reported, 18 linked to current outbreaks, the remaining seven are under investigation.
Only three in quarantine for entire infectious period. 16 spent time in the community.
The ACT has passed 85% vaccination rate for those 12 aged and over (NSW passed the 85% rate for people aged 16 and over yesterday).

Monday 27 September -
The ACT has recorded the first death of the current COVID outbreak, a male in his 90s who was a resident of the Calvary Haydon aged care facility in Bruce.
19 new cases were reported to 8pm last night, with 17 linked to existing cases. Seven cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period and at least eight were infectious in the community.
Andrew Barr also revealed a roadmap for the ACT, with changes taking place on October 15 and 29.

Tuesday 28 September -
13 new cases reported. 11 are linked, 6 of which are household contacts.
1 was in quarantine for their full infectious period, 7 were infectious in the community, the rest are under early assessment.
Andrew Barr said that businesses in hospitality, tourism, the arts, events and personal services would have ongoing financial support from the ACT and Commonwealth after the end of the lockdown. He also said that ACT Government would continue to work with the NSW and Victorian governments on interstate travel requirements.

Wednesday 29 September -
22 new cases. At least seven of those cases spent some time infectious in the community. Only 12 have been linked to existing cases so far.
The ACT is set to ease some lockdown restrictions on Friday before further changes on October 15 and October 29, but businesses are set to feel the pain for the rest of the year.

Are you referring to the death of a woman in Bateman’s Bay? That was mentioned in the NSW lockdown thread.
This morning’s ACT Government press conference did not mention any new deaths. The current death toll stays at one, the male resident of an aged care home in Bruce.

My apologies. There doesn’t appear to be a covid death in the ACT today. Some people including myself have misinterpreted the ACT Health tweet. Covid live website and Covid Australia twitter account have both recorded it as another death as well.

Thursday 30 September -
31 new cases. 17 have been linked to previous cases and 14 are under investigation.
6 cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period and at least 17 cases were in the community for part of their infectious period.
Andrew Barr said that 7000 texts were sent yesterday to people to advise them they could bring forward their vaccine appointments, and Canberrans aged 60+ could book Pfizer vaccines from today.

The jointly funded Commonwealth-ACT scheme to support local businesses will be expanded to allow for additional payments up until an unspecified date in mid-October.

Also new rules will apply from midnight tonight:
Two people can visit your house
Non-essential retail can click and collect
Dental services are back
National parks open
Up to five people can gather outside


Friday 1 October -
The ACT has recorded new two deaths from this outbreak. Both are people in their 80s at the Calvary Haydon Retirement Community. Both were receiving end-of-life care.
The territory also recorded 52 new locally acquired cases to 8pm last night, the highest number recorded in the outbreak so far. 40 have been linked to known cases and 12 are still under investigation. 31 of the 52 cases spent some time in the community while infectious.


Saturday 2 October -
52 new cases, same as yesterday. 30 are linked to known cases. At least 29 of today’s cases were infectious in the community.

Sunday 3 October -
38 new cases reported today. 24 of the new cases are linked, while 14 are under early investigation.
14 were in quarantine for their full infectious period, at least 16 were infectious in the community.
At today’s press conference, ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith reminded people not to use the public holiday weekend or NRL Grand Final as an excuse to gather together in large groups, and said there were instances of transmission linked to legal gatherings in the ACT.

Monday 4 October -
Two new deaths reported, both women in their 80s. One woman was a resident of Calvary Haydon aged care facility, where she was receiving end of life care. The second woman was admitted to Canberra Hospital on Friday where she received palliative care for COVID-19.
28 new cases were reported. At least 16 of today’s cases were infectious in the community and 14 are yet to be linked to a known source.
93.4% of the ACT’s eligible population had received first dose of vaccine and 64.6% is fully vaccinated.

It was later reported two additional deaths occurred after the 8pm reporting cut-off, and will be added to the territory’s figures on Tuesday. One of them is the mother-in-law of Deborah Knight.

Tuesday 5 October -
33 new cases reported. At least 14 of today’s cases were infectious in the community and five are yet to be linked to a known source.
More than 94% of Canberrans aged over 12 have now received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 65% are fully vaccinated.
CHO Kerryn Coleman said health authorities had noticed an increase in people transmitting the virus to close contacts over the past week.

Wednesday 6 October -
28 new cases. 19 are linked, 13 of whom are household contacts, 9 are under investigation. 11 were in quarantine for their full infectious period, 5 were infectious in the community and may present a risk of tranmission to others.
The ACT has recorded another COVID-19 related death, a woman in her 70s receiving end of life care at Calvary Haydon prior to contracting COVID-19.
More than 95% of Canberrans aged over 12 have received one dose of vaccine.
A baby in Canberra’s Centenary Hospital for Women and Children tested positive to COVID-19 overnight. The baby has been moved to a COVID-19 ward and family members advised to get tested and quarantine.
From tomorrow, the ACT becomes a red zone under the Victorian travel permit system. It means Victorian residents in the ACT can return to the state, so long as they have applied for a valid permit and complete a 14-day quarantine after arrival.
The ACT Budget will allocate more than $90 million would be invested in the public health response to COVID-19, focusing on pushing forward with the vaccine rollout.

Thursday 7 October -
41 new cases. 14 are linked to known cases or ongoing clusters. Seven were in quarantine for the entirety of their infectious period while at least five were in the community while infectious.
96% of Canberrans aged over 12 have received one dose of vaccine.
ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said a second baby and a staff member at the Centenary Hospital had tested positive overnight, bringing the total number of cases in the cluster to five (two babies, two carers who have been visiting the unit, and one staff member). 28 hospital staff members are currently in quarantine.

Friday 8 October -
40 new cases. At least 10 of today’s cases spent some time in the community while infectious and 19 are yet to be linked to a known source.
Almost 97% of Canberrans aged 12 and over have now received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. More than 68% are fully vaccinated.

Saturday 9 October -
25 new cases. 12 are linked to previous cases, and the rest remain under investigation. Nine of the 25 cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period.
Andrew Barr revealed that the 12- to 15-year-olds had the fastest vaccination uptake in the territory.

Has the ACT been told when they will exit lockdown?

Monday 11 October -
32 new cases. At least nine spent some time infectious in the community and seven cases are yet to be linked to other known cases or transmission sites.
70% of ACT population aged 12 and over is now fully vaccinated, the first Australian jurisdiction to reach this milestone.
Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith confirmed two further cases associated with the cluster at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children’s special care nursery had been recorded. One of the new cases is a member of the nursing team, who has been quarantining at home since the initial case was identified last week. The other new case is a household contact of an existing case, which is also connected to the cluster.


NSW Health has made an exemption to the public health order to make life easier for NSW residents who enter the ACT for work or medical care. NSW residents who have been in the ACT for work, to receive medical care, or to accompany someone receiving treatment will now no longer have to complete a declaration or follow stay at home rules after they return to NSW.

Tuesday 12 October -
28 new cases. At least 16 of these new cases spent some time infectious in the community; nine were in quarantine during their entire infectious period.
Out of the total cases, 22 are linked to other known cases or clusters, with 14 of these household contacts.
97.8% of the ACT population aged 12 and over has received first dose of COVID vaccine.
Andrew Barr announced this morning that the current lockdown would end at 11.59pm this Thursday.

Well done ACT. You have set the benchmark for the rest of Australia where >90% is definitely achievable.

There is no reason ACT can’t get to 99%. Apparently the issue is with the 16-24 age group. But they said its likely those people aren’t even in the state at the moment. So it could be possible that that figure will get even higher once they return.

51 new cases. Of these, 13 cases were in quarantine during their whole infectious period and 22 have been assessed as presenting a risk of transmission to others.
32 of those are linked to known cases or ongoing clusters, 19 of whom are household contacts.
98.5% of ACT’s eligible population have received first dose, 73.5% have received second dose.

46 cases today with 30 linked. One death sadly.
