Computer Help

it would, but donā€™t do that!
you can get pretty cheap devices that connect a VCR to a computer.

Okay cheers :+1: Iā€™ll go to somewhere like Jacar or Officeworks.

Iā€™ll also upload heaps of caps to the vault in the meantime.

Or there are plenty on eBay if you donā€™t want to pay too much.

Basically you just hook the VCR up via a USB then play out the tape while recording on the computer. It can be quite a long and arduous process if you have lots of old tapes but well worth it (I did our entire family collection a few years ago, took about a year to get through the whole lot!).

As in the show Googlebox???

Iā€™m wondering if you actually talk to people like this in real life

@LukeMovieMan I would recommend doing this or donating them to someone who can. Uploading caps are always appreciated by the community but pointing a phone camera at a TV just isnā€™t the same. If youā€™re serious about wanting to share your collection and preserving history in its best possible form, then doing it properly is the only way to go.

Wouldnā€™t you only need one VCR? What are you going to do with a stack of them?

People with a Mac possibly you could help me?

So in the default mail app Iā€™ve got my quite a few email accounts connected (including my uni email). Is there a way to have a default (sending) email address for one set of contacts and another default for another set of contacts?

i.e. anything sent to people with a uni email sent from my uni email address etc.

Desktop PC (Windows) wonā€™t start-up.

Hard drive running and monitor working, but just a black screen after the windows icon.

Hard drive fault? Needs repair? Or can I do something?

Tried accessing BIOM or whatever it is F12 on start up and resorting default. Tried unplugging and restarting, nothing.

Bloody computers, I swear every year thereā€™s always something that needs repair.

Remote possibility it is something that is plugged into the computer (e.g. external drive) that is problem. Unplug everything except screen and try.

No luck :frowning:

Thank you for the suggestion though.

Off to the PC doctor tomorrow.

Earlier in the year my brand new laptop was freezing and had couple of blue screens of death. Updating the BIOS and all the drivers fixed the issue. Hopefully yours is as simple as an update - hope you can easily get it fixed.

Canā€™t even get to the logon screen.

What did you do in the BIOS?

If itā€™s a black screen after the Windows prompt, you could attempt a start in safe mode. What you need to do is turn the computer off (cut the power or hold down the power button) IMMEDIATELY after you see the Windows logo, three times. This will cause the OS to at least enter recovery mode where you can attempt a repair on the operating system or enter safe mode to recover files if you want.

Usually Windows enters recovery mode by itself after three unsuccessful bootups, but it sounds like the computer makes it past the boot sequence (hence not triggering the ā€˜boot failureā€™ sequence) and then immediately hangs on the black screen.

By the way, on this ā€˜black screenā€™ - does the mouse cursor work?

No.

But Iā€™ll try again, thank you.

Iā€™ve been trying to find how to bring up the menu with the ā€œstart in safe modeā€, etc options.

I was just curious, has anyone else been receiving this pop-up as well? For me, itā€™s only occurring when I access my forum, however Iā€™ve spoken to a member on there, and it appears to be occurring on other sites as well. Iā€™ve tried googling it and judging by several sites Iā€™ve come across, it seems to be an issue that is affecting Australian internet users. It hasnā€™t popped-up on Media Spy yet, so hopefully it stays that way.

It has got me a bit concerned. Is it a type of malware? Hopefully my computer hasnā€™t been affected. :frowning:

Iā€™d say the ad server for the host for your forum is malfunctioning.
Iā€™d suggest installing AdBlock or a similar chrome extension, turning it on and seeing if it still happens.

Possibly. Iā€™ll install AdBlock and see if it helps at all. Although, if itā€™s an issue that other Australian internet users are experiencing, it may not change anything. Iā€™ll give it a go anyway.
