Just caught a bit of ICYMI - basically a compilation of clips from interviews on developing stories featured in the main shows.

An all-important (and big!) UP NEXT graphic that leads to nowhere near the story (it cuts to a panel discussion on sandwich and DC on This Morning instead):

Not much else is new here - I believe all the shows are there earlier, just with a clearer scheduling now?

He tried to suck up to LA entertainment but came across as a dork and then wrote that stupid book while Trump burned democracy down and clearly a diva too. What a wanker. Dull as fuck too.

Jake not hosting just show The Lead this morning, despite the summit at the White House.

Yeah, Phil Mattingly’s been doing it, but I prefer him anyway.

EDIT: If anyone is still up… a rare chance to see The Situation Room on CNNI right now (they’re taking the domestic feed to cover the FBI raiding John Bolton’s house).

Does anyone know why CNN International in randomly showing CNN US?

The International feed is random. I don’t think there is much logic behind most of it to be honest. They should scrap it and reinvest that into the US feed

When I tuned in earlier (2pm UK time, which is normally Connect the World) they crashed into News Central which went straight into a Trump press conference. They did the same at a couple of points on Friday, with the FBI raids and the Maxwell stuff.

5-8.30am, 5-5.30pm and 7pm-midnight (all Eastern time) are simulcast with the US feed. Outside of those times, CNNI does its own thing… usually.

I notice they have been cutting to the US feed a bit more lately when there’s been big breaking news. They were reluctant to do that for a while, I think because CNNI is also CNN Max, and the cable companies don’t like too much duplication of output.

CNN continues on it’s slow voyage into network decay.

To be fair, I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

8pm-midnight Eastern on Sat/Sun is not the place to find live programming - let alone news - on either the U.S. or international feed of CNN. That has been the case for, IIRC, six years.

At least this event is live and, for better or worse, have CNN anchors covering. Oh, and accessible without a cable sub.

If this helps bumping up their ratings significantly, let them have it. The only trouble is finding an opt-out point for breaking news coverage if there’s any.

There should be no doubt. It’s a news channel. People used to complain when MSNBC spent 58 or so hours a week on Catch a Predator and Jail shows, why is a damn concert happily allowed to go to air.

Because that was the time when their weekend news service halted at noon Eastern. Like literally halted even in breaking news (and if they did cover, usually one hour behind CNN/FNC or more).

CNN is live until 8pm on weekends.

And to be clear, if I have to pick between a concert and a newscast, I’d take the latter any day of the week. But if it’s between a live concert with some significance (depends on who you talk to) and the 50th showing of a taped doco/CNN Original Series episode, I would have to go with the former.

It’s broadly terrible on the surface, but considering weekend schedule history, it’s the second-best option. They might still do news when a huge story breaks (emphasizing the word “might”).

It’s a charity concert that connects with a broader audience not usually exposed to CNN. I’d say it’s a good move.

The return of Newsroom LA… what’s old is new again!

It’s good that they’ll have more live news overnight again, but seems a shame to displace John Vause, who currently does that slot from Atlanta. (The irony of it is, he lives in LA when not anchoring. I guess CNN thinks its domestic viewers just can’t handle an Aussie accent…)

Hello everyone – I guess I’ll start posting here now that pres.cafe has been blocked off to everyone from outside the UK.

I’m a little surprised CNNI hired Elex. I’m very familiar with his work as I’m based in California, and I think it’s an odd pairing. He finds a way to make everything about himself, and I think he might end up finding that the overnight block on CNNI is a big confining from what he’s used to. To put it another way, he very much gives off Julia Chatterley vibes.

Great to see you here, Charles!

I noticed the press release said “on CNN and around the world on CNN International starting this fall,” so I suspect Elex’s hours might be more domestically-tailored than the current overnight block. They were planning to do this with Jim Acosta and everyone thought that was just a ploy to get rid of him. Perhaps they were serious about it after all. Wonder if CNN will build a new set in LA?

Think it’s great they’re having a show for prime time in LA.

Do they have a set anymore in LA? They moved fairly recently from their big building on Sunset in Hollywood to the Warner lot in Burbank. My bet is it’s a show from a cupboard.

I’m honestly not sure. I wouldn’t have thought so. I know Dana Bash has done one or two Inside Politics shows from LA, but I suspect CNN borrowed a set from a local station. Here’s a screencap:

I suspect you’re right that it will just come from a cupboard. If they can’t be bothered to find a set in NY for Richard Quest’s show then I doubt they’d go to the trouble of building one from scratch in LA.
