CNN

Given most shows are just a tight shot of the anchor there’s not much need for a set is there?

Yes it does need a proper set. A news channel broadcast globally needs to have something more than just a tight head-on shot. It just looks cheap and nasty, and it’s shameful that CNN sees it as acceptable for so much output.

Same here. I thought I was the only one who got blocked and I didn’t do anything wrong. Does anyone know why everyone outside the UK has been blocked?

The Online Safety Act.

As @telecom says, it’s probably something to do with the Online Safety Act. Though tbh whoever runs that website has always had an… interesting approach, shall we say? It doesn’t always seem to be the most rationally-run forum.

Back to CNN and they’ve pulled out all the stops for Trump’s state visit to the UK, sending Kaitlan Collins to anchor from Windsor Castle alongside Max Foster, plus extensive reporting from Nic Robertson. Nice to see a mix of talent from the domestic channel and CNNI - a few years ago I think they would have sent Wolf Blitzer and a whole delegation from DC, leaving out the London-based people. Glad that’s not the case anymore.

I have to wonder if Erica Hill ever sleeps… she was on air for The Lead last night (5-7pm ET), then she came back on air at 3am ET this morning. Busy lady!

Bye bye CNN Max… hello CNN+ Mk II!

Special coverage of the hostage release has been underway since 11am AEDT, 4.5 hours earlier than the closest competitor.

But for some reason at noon, someone in the control room thought putting this pop-up on the screen made sense.

It stayed there 90% of the time until 3pm, when Wolf and Kaitlan began anchoring from Tel Aviv. Sara Sidner was in studio.

Safe to say the duo will be here for the rest of the night.

Dear lord Wolf is almost a broken record that’s on repeat. He keeps just saying the same line about the achievement Trump has made to get it to this point. Not really adding much to the coverage.
The bloke shouldn’t be over there.

Couldn’t disagree more. Wolf defines breaking news. His presence emphasises the significance of the news event. He’s doing a great job. So Is Kaitlin. I don’t understand why Audie Cornish needed to welcome viewers at 6am ET. Hasn’t been seen since.

Bring back Cuomo and Lemon!

Oh seriously.

Yes but the man is 77. He has got better the last couple of hours, maybe because he has more produced content he’s reading from it being fed, but when I was watching around 5:30 AEDT it was shocking. He just kept repeating himself.

You only need to watch him on The situation room, he’s clunky and almost struggles to keep up with the autocue. I see Biden esque tropes in him these days

He was supposed to leave this year but, for whatever reason, he ended up signing a three year extension. Whether he’ll make it to the end of those three years is anyone’s guess (I suspect not). I think this will be his last overseas assignment for sure.

$7/month to stream CNN without a cable subscription. I think this is DOA.

And we have a name: The Story Is: with Elex Michaelson. 12-2am ET, replaces CNN Newsroom (for international viewers) and repeats on the domestic channel.

So they’ve built a new set in LA. Looks quite good from the little we can see. Love the music! Looking forward to finding out what it all looks and sounds like on air.
