CNN

Will they follow this up with an assessment on how their original employer Fox News has also lost the plot? Bret Baier is literally demanding the network not report on certain stories that would offend the POTUS.

Kinda nuts the salary Anderson is on for such tiny ratings and he doesn’t seem to leave the desk much. Nobody should be on that anymore.

He’s just hired a new agent, the same one as Scarlett Johansson, would you believe. Interesting timing given everything going on. He’ll be out the door at the end of his contract.

His contract should coincide nicely with CBS’s timing to retool CBSEN.

Apparently they’re doing this as part of revamping their FAST offering, with some live hours instead of entirely repeats-land. It’s as if they used to have a linear channel for this exact purpose…

This is how the anchored segment, Headline Express, looks now in a chroma keyed backdrop:

Also of all the talent driven shows, AC360 would have the be visually the worst looking show. Constant locked off camera with a hideous blue backdrop. No depth and no creativity. It’s very dated.

New idents today - the red box logo is gone and the music has been updated, but the James Earl Jones voiceover lives on:

Not really a fan of the new jingle - sounds too weak and muffled, just like the state of the channel.

It sounds especially quiet when there’s another voice on top:

(From here)

I guess this will be the face of their new streaming service, which might work before, say, a documentary, but not news.

I actually saw some of these last week.

They have also got rid of the harmony / chanting backing during a lineup promo thank god!

A jingle should be authoritive and be instantly recognisable. CNN’s new one isn’t either of those things.

Do you mean this?

Because if so that was still there yesterday, at least when I was watching… I hate it. Such an irritating ā€˜tune’ and it’s played at least twice an hour, every hour. Might not be so bad if they varied it with some other tracks but they don’t.

Ohhhh maybe I was lucky and missed it haha.

Interestingly, seems the music from the old opens was atleast 13 years old.
Astonishing how many feature in this montage that are no longer there

I actually don’t think the below one was that bad and relatively new too

However you have visual elements like the ugly BREAKING NEWS screen that I can find dates back to 2018! its 7 years old!
Ironically the International ā€œALERTā€ bumper looks more modern and its from the same era!

They should be putting energy into their branding in that sense and updating the intros like AC360 (and the set), News Spacedeck Central etc. It’s all bloody ugly. Not changing ID themes

Yeah I agree, it’s just a complete mishmash of styles. CNNI in particular is a mess, a grab bag of elements from the last 10 years or more (in fact some aspects date back to 2009!). No cohesion at all. Tbh I think they need to wipe the slate clean and start again.

They could do worse than recreate this look:

And to think it’s almost 20 years old… I think most of it would still look great today. Probably my favourite ever news graphics.

What did everyone think about the Jake Tapper hot mic moment?

Quite amusing (you can see it here if you haven’t already). He always struck me as a bit of a diva tbh.

They changed the bumpers this week, to get rid of the red box logo. Sadly that god awful music remains (though they have remixed it ever so slightly).

He also has no credibility anymore. An abject fool.
