Climate, Weather and Emergencies

I don’t live there, but I can tell you some stories.
My uncle, his wife and my 2 cousins are in Orbost, Gippsland (VIC) right now. He’s a fire spotter. Not been told to leave (yet).

Long-time friend live in Adelaide Hills. Evacuated yesterday.
My family were the only people who called her to see if she was OK.

Also friend, Billy Cooper, ABC Cameraman, currently filming, check out his FB page if you want to see some scary s*it.

Our annual family summer holiday (this year, a road trip from Melbourne to Sydney, with stops in Albury, Canberra, Ulladulla, all put on hold right now.

Stay safe everyone.

Briefly off-topic but important!
Is anybody from Media Spy caught in or near any of these fires in any state/territory? If you are I wish you all the best.

The Zig Zag Railway has been damaged.

Poor old Zig Zag; it got badly damaged in the last lot of fires only six years ago. Don’t think they ever fully recovered from that either.

Living in the Blue Mountains, already risky, is becoming dangerous to say the least. It’s a real pity as the area is obviously desirable. I ruled it out as a possible destination a while ago due to the fire risk and it looks like I’ve been vindicated :frowning:

I don’t think this issue is going to be forgotten so quickly.

No, unfortunately they only started the rebuild process about 1 year ago, they had made some ground the last few months, but I guess that is all gone now

It took them a long time to get funding, most of their work were done by volunteers and relied on community donations. Sad stuff.

This photo should give you an idea of the size of the Cuddle Creek fire since it first started

Adelaide to the left, to the right, Adelaide Hills (yellow - Watch and Act warning area, black striped area - area burnt)

It’s not supposed to be rational, it’s supposed to be a mental excuse that idiots can regurgitate over social media.

The same “reporter” who cut off Gladys Berejiklian in a press conference last month.

Isn’t that idiot a member here?

Yes, he is. Unless you’ve banned him.

I’ve noticed on the BOM forecast that Hobart is expecting a top of 40°C tomorrow, something I haven’t seen before. Yes, it did get over 40 there before, but I don’t think it was ever forecast prior to that happening. It’s a little cooler on the northern side of Tassie, where Launceston is expecting a top of 34°C & Devonport a top of 26°C.

On the other side of Bass Strait, Melbourne is forecasting a top of 43°C, with the heat heading to Sydney the following day, with a top of 35°C in the CBD & up to 44°C in the western suburbs.
