Oh sweet, thanks.
Yep. There is basically no difference….. I’m not sure when they started building the new website but if its not ready its not ready…..

“We will continue to deliver website improvements in regular updates, based on community and customer feedback, just as we have done throughout the development phase.”
Media release from the Bureau
I always check the wind directions for my area via an outlook spread over several days and BoM has been a huge help, but the new-look BoM weather website has completely ruined it for me, made it more harder for me to even navigate the whole site. I’m now looking for an alternative until the Australian Government reverses this change. Then I’ll go back to using the BoM website for all my weather needs.
I use Willy weather for wind.
Will look into that when I get a chance! Thanks! ![]()
How did I not see this one earlier? Thanks so much for finding and posting this! ![]()
For now at least, finally, I can still use the old BoM website! ![]()
They didn’t really change anything during the development phase though? It just released one day a few years ago, and now it’s still the exact same site just not in beta.
SEQ’s turn today
We must be looking for different things then. Observations, forecast, radar which are the key things I use on the site need more clicks and also use up more real estate so need more scrolling up and down.
The only key “upgrade” I have seen from the user standpoint is the refreshed design, and even then the functionality is not upgraded outside perhaps the radar no longer being tied to a particular location.
Yes, though of course they probably had this date earmarked for months. Even the BOM can’t forecast the weather that far in advance (though they try!)
Thanks for posting that link; hopefully it stays up for a while. The third party radar app on my phone no longer functions since the upgrade.
Another alternative is Weatherzone or Oz Forecast, both of which have most BOM data.
Well done Bureau, you’ve got you’re own Betoota article now.

Yeah, absolutely everyone hates it.
Ok, I finally managed to get the Bom website somewhat working today and I must say its still shit. It’s basically just willy weather…….
More than 55,000 homes are without power after a “very dangerous” thunderstorm smashed Brisbane and Ipswich, delivering four-centimetre hail and winds close to 100km/h, with a number of other severe storms hitting other parts of the southeast.
Damaging winds have down trees, giant hail has smashed windows, and heavy rain has caused flash flooding across the region.
Melbourne was also hit by heavy rain for most of today, causing local floods and power outage to more than 20,000 homes in the city’s western suburbs.
Absolutely destructive storm in the western suburbs. Our power is still out this morning after going off at about 4:30pm yesterday as it hit. Lost a few big branches from some of the gum trees in the front. Roads are still closed and no idea when power might be restored - all on a day forecast to reach 37 degrees ![]()
And this too…
The Government has wasted $4.1 million of taxpayers money on relaunching the BoM website.
People are still pissed off, and I’ve already even sent the BoM a protest message vowing to never use their new look site again. Despite all of this though, they are doubling down on the new look.
Like they care what you think. ![]()
