Climate, Weather and Emergencies

Looks like Alfred has stalled and is now not expected to cross until late Friday or even Saturday. This might decrease the wind a bit but is likely to prolong the risk of heavy rainfall.

Stalling weather systems are now very common in this new era, prolonging rain events as well as heatwaves.

The BOM says that it will also allow more time for further coastal erosion from damaging waves.

Some one recommended, zoom earth on my browser it is quite a good website.

I feel like (and this might be me) most people are as prepped as they are - stocked up and ready to bunker down. And yes, we’re all at the mercy of it - so there will be damage anyway, that’s a fact, so it would be nice to have it happen sooner, reducing rainfall and flooding, rather than it lingering for longer and MORE rain falls.

Happy to be corrected if I’m misunderstanding anything however

I think you’ve missed the point.

I was responding to the way you phrased that comment “the longer we wait” which almost infers there is a choice there.

Also willing the cyclone along because you’re bored, doesn’t read well either.

All good.

Islands under a red alert

Cyclone Alfred: Alfred performs second pirouette during slow, destructive path towards SEQ

The latest tracking data from the Bureau of Meteorology, released just before 11pm, showed Alfred would make landfall near Redcliffe, slightly further north than previously indicated.

The modelling had Alfred moving through the City of Moreton Bay in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The modelling also showed Alfred had spun back around to the east for the second time.

I’d just like to take this opportunity now before the next stage of the cyclone commences to wish everyone in the predicted affected regions and whatever regions ends up being affected, the best of luck, well wishes and safety for all members and their friends and families.

Try and stay in touch if possible but if not we shall see everyone on the other side.

And while you are all waiting, here is an infamous moment from Seven’s coverage of Cyclone Debbie in 2017:

Good luck, and remember, we are all behind you
