Climate, Weather and Emergencies

@TV_Addict must be happy- just 5C in Yeppoon this morning, impressive for a weather station right on the coast and next to a road. It only got to 19C as well.

Hamilton Island failed to reach 18C, so those holidaying from the southern states were in for a shock. Quite cool maximums all the way up to Innisfail (only 22C).

Yep in all the years here that is about how cold it seems to get maybe 4 c a few years ago.Says it was minus 0.6 deg in July 1995 but the data is in italics so not sure if that was ever confirmed.

The weather station has been playing up a lot this month just goes offline during the day with a hyphen like currently.

Min was 11 deg this morning though.

I don’t mind SE winds gusting in the warm months but currently it is quite cool with them blowing.

I think winter has ended early. Max temps in Yeppoon around 24 deg next week possibly 25-26 deg mins around 15-16 deg … more like September temperatures.

At least the Coral Sea finally has cooled off .

Interesting rain event coming up given that this month is one of the driest times of the year we only average about 16mm in August and 13mm in September. Some models have this area getting 70-100mm !

I must have run into a warm patch of weather when I was up your way a couple of weeks ago (22-26 July). It was 25 in Rocky on the Wed-Thu and there was a heavy shower on the Thu morning when I left.

Townsville was overcast and 26 on the Friday and even felt a tad muggy, particularly when there was no breeze.

Same here in Melbourne. Maximum temperature is expected to reach 20 on Monday and Tuesday.

Current models have around 19C for Bungendore on Wednesday, with a string of 17-18 before that. The nights haven’t warmed up yet though; still -3 this morning and we had as low as -7 during the week. It’s basically sprinter here: winter overnight to mid morning, then spring from late morning to late afternoon. I’ve had to wear very warm clothing in the morning but by lunchtime it’s almost shirt weather (not quite T-shirt).

Rockhampton can hit 30 deg in winter though it’s not the average.

Yeppoon has had now 150.8mm this month and the median for August is 16mm !

Weird day it was warmer in Hobart than Brisbane. Sydney Canberra and Melbourne.

Update: it will reach 21 in Melbourne today (Wednesday), then it rains for the next four days, with maximum temperature dropping to high to mid teens.

The Ekka People’s Day Grand Parade has been postponed for the first time in the show’s history due to heavy rain in Brisbane.

The event features the champions of Ekka including bulls, goats, dairy cattle, cats, dogs, horses, horticulture and Showgirl entrants.

Got to 26c in Yeppoon 4 deg above before a breeze dropped it to 22.5-23 deg.

Mins are more like September.

Having said that last year mins were high in winter didn’t translate to a hot Spring…
