There’s still a hot airmass over SW WA after yesterday’s 40C day in Perth. Now the west coast trough has moved onshore, bringing in humid winds from the Indian Ocean. The dewpoints are high with the seabreeze due to the hot airmass above. The Leeuwin Current is probably also warming as with the Tasman Sea, bringing muggier air more often to Perth.
The one place where SSTs are normal or even cooler than normal is off South Australia. Adelaide has had a very cool summer up until now for the most part, partially due to these cool SSTs. The pattern of a humid trough over the eastern states and cool air over SA (on the west side of the troughs and lows) has been persistent this season also.
Thunderstorms inland and moisture from that has also added to the humidity.
I saw Garden Island had a dew point nudging 24 deg yesterday.
Now looks like another cyclone in 10 days possible north of Yeppoon or Mackay?
The SE winds every day aren’t even cool with such warmth. The beach water feels like warm soup !
BOM Meteye has the higher dew points continuing all week in Perth though going down to 15 deg which i think is still higher than usual. 33 deg with a dp of 20 deg in Perth this afternoon yuk.
Looks like another potential cyclone brewing in the coral sea next week. No point talking about paths or anything until next week. If it doesn’t eventuate, still chance of large rainfall regardless.
Certainly is no secret that it’s going to be a wet reminder of the month for FNQ regardless.
My previous comments stands. Avoid Cairns until Feb!
And yet, I see the airlines and hotels are offering deals to the foolish. At this point it’s probably best to treat the whole of Queensland, in summer, as you would Antarctica during winter.
I was in Sydney on Thursday to Saturday last week.
On Thursday I took light rail to Rozelle Bay then walked along Rozelle Parklands and Anzac Bridge to Pyrmont, before boarding light rail back to the CBD. It was late afternoon / early evening but it was still humid and sweaty.
Friday was also humid during the day but the evening was cooler. Saturday was just hot.
Sydney-pore is a good description of the weather in the ‘arba siddee’ lately. The seabreeze, as in the deep tropics, only makes things worse . The Tasman off Shitney is basically bath water and will remain that way until April/May, so don’t expect much relief anytime soon.
I think those bath warm temps in the Tasman are actually making cloudy, rainy days more likely in Bungendore. Normally the low level weather from the east breaks up but cloud has been solid the past two days, with temps failing to reach 20.
I was just checking Ballarat weather on the weather zone and so far we have gone over the January rain amount, the normal monthly rain amount is 40 mm rain so far in the last 17 days we are up to 48 mm and I was listening to jane bunn on 7 news and for victoria the el nino is no longer controlling the weather it’s now a warm Tasman sea
So many of our records for min temps in Yeppoon have been broken since 2016 in all bar 3 months .
We had 28.1 deg as a min this morning .
Tens of thousands of people living across a huge swathe of towns inland of Perth were without power for two days after a severe storm swept through the region, felling massive transmission towers.
Compounding the issue was a summer heatwave, with temperatures soaring beyond 40 degrees in many towns.
Many are still without essential services as authorities work to restore the network.
28.2 deg here in yeppoon this morning as a MIN well above the average of 23.9 deg.
Latest model. Still too early to call, really need to wait until Monday night and get some more data on speed etc which will help firm up some info on where it’s going. Should have good details next Tuesday on most likely track, and any expected landfall would still be Thursday onwards.
Watching the Oz Open this arvo, saw the current conditions and temperature for Melbourne and I was envious only 19 degrees .meanwhile this arvo in Brisbane,29 sweaty degrees,Humidity 77 percent ,dew point 24 degrees ,ouch
Apparently 24 tonight, 37 tomorrow in Brissie.
Double ouch.
Meanwhile in Sydney, the suburbs hit 40 degrees today when predictions had been in the early to mid 30s.
My air con at home is working overtime
Meanwhile down here in Melbourne I had the North Face Jacket out today and it appears I will tomorrow. Bit of a non event this Summer down this way this year. Well…so far…
It’s been calm regardless so not complaining.
Heatwave warning in place in most of QLD for today,I’m not at the RSPCA today ,staying at home in my air con and watching tennis.
It’s only 19 degrees in Melbourne today ,I’m envious
Even though I’m a born and bred Queenslander I’m older now and I have no tolerance anymore for heat and especially high humidity .
On days like this I remember how much I hated going to work in my former workplace not working in air con🥵
When I’m working in the RSPCA laundry room I try to stay in the room where the clean linen is kept that area is air conditioned, but not the room where the washing machines and dryers are, there’s a plastic curtain separating the 2 laundry rooms and we can close the front door as well to keep the cool air inside
