Classification

What do you mean?

i.e. wouldn’t be cost effective if they can only use it on BVOD, rather than across both

Yeah but Seven have aired numerous R18+ titles they’d have received uncut from the distributor, but chose to modify to they could be broadcast and could’ve uploaded to 7Plus as not edited, but did not, keeping them edited as MA (obviously the same version probably made as their master).

Basic Instinct a recent one that comes to mind.

Seven got re-licenced and aired the film on 7flix a couple of times in prime time the past couple of years, a new file too, it was Studiocanal’s 2021 brand new restoration and 4K remaster, also re-submitted to the CB and R18+ upheld. 7mate previously aired the movie around 2014/2015, but an older tape.

This was uploaded after broadcast to 7Plus.

The explicit scene between Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone about half-way through the movie was edited (both Seven versions), the older one also edited or removed a few other scenes including some graphic violence - which the CB’s new consumer advice better reflects.

Which sounds all too familiar. Keeping an edited and unedited version seems too hard for FTA networks let alone airing both versions on different mediums at the same time.

I don’t remember MAO, but SBS did have MAV for a number of years.

I thought it was AOM (Adults Only Modified)

What was A? :stuck_out_tongue:

(from 1980)

A was for Adult.
AO was for Adult Only.

I’m thinking that A was used before PGR and PG.

Didn’t Foxtel use the AO rating on its Adults only channels?

What is consistency? Baby don’t hurt me, no more

Foxtel started after the change to the current classifications system. Adults Only was the name of the channel and was R18+

Also, a very rare (possibly one of the only ever) MA15+ rated NCIS episodes is airing, Ten usually always edited them to M instead. It’s their master from 2006 S3E3 “Mind Games”, storyline involving a serial killer and obviously couldn’t being it down to a lower level. Hence can’t air before 8:30pm and back when it was first run wouldn’t have been able to air before 9pm (it’s strong adult themes - if it were violence it wouldn’t have been allowed to air before 9:30pm with the old AV15+ classification):

Tonight’s first run Highway Patrol episode 2 at 8pm is classified “M” with “Adult Themes”. I think that could be a first for the series, usually they’re “PG”. Regardless, since end of 2015 changes, it could’ve still aired at 8:30pm unedited, just not 7pm or earlier.

Wonder what content in a road policing factual could’ve exceeded the PG threshold, guess we’ll see.

I watched the 8pm episode of Highway Patrol tonight. I reckon the M rating was due to an old man saying “shit” on air after his car registration was cancelled after he forgot to renew it, and a reference to MDMA in another case.

:open_mouth:  That’s allowed even in a PG show.

That’s most likely the reason.

Was RPA the only program that got a show themed classification warning?

(I note that in this example the screen only says Medical Procedures, but the VO also mentions nudity.

This is pretty funny because I seem to remember the old RPA was more graphic then the one they show these days.

Yup. Anything went in terms of surgery on screen on the RPA of old. Just make sure you’re not eating anything while it’s on🤮
