Some C31 questions… Was Channel 31 only on air in the evening? Was Mansfield’s Melbourne hosted by Bruce Mansfield? Also Under Melbourne Tonight - what a classic.
On Wednesdays they would have thoroughbred races during the day, other days were filled with lectures from RMIT. And you’re correct with Mansfield’s Melbourne, from memory was also on Optus Vision’s Local Vision channel.
Sliders, Power Rangers, Time Masters, Seinfeld.
Some show called Burke’s Backyard. It’s the 90’s.
We forget about dear old John Hinde when we discuss television film critics/presenters. There were times when Hinde was presenting a a late night movie on the ABC when I thought he was about to nod off mid sentence. I wonder if the director ever had to give him a nudge to keep him going. To be fair some of those old films the ABC ran on a Friday night were only good for inducing sleep.
This was the day when Good News Week premiered for the first time on the ABC.
It was originally axed after the 1st season due to the ABC’s budget cuts at the time, but the decision was later reversed & therefore returned for its 2nd (1997) & 3rd (1998) seasons. The show then moved to Ten in 1999, and was then cancelled the following year. Ten then revived the show in 2008 when the Writer’s Strike was impacting on US programming, and remained on-air until 2011, when it was rested before the finale special was aired as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April 2012.
Good News Week also spawned three spin-offs: Good News Weekend in 1998 (ABC), GNW Night Lite in 1999 (Ten) & Good News World in 2011 (Ten).
I’d kill to have GNW back.
The Good News World spin-off copped criticism due to its scripted nature and lack of spontaneity.
Yes, and was a bad move.
Still, I’d love to see GNW back. If it wasn’t for HYBPA, it’d be a sadder place.
With new people in charge?
Maybe, if Paul, Mikey, and Juile/Claire didn’t want to go on. But you have to find the right people.
A local version of Mock the Week would be good it’d be a bit cheaper and have a fresher feel but with hybpa it’s kinda repeating itself
Both ABC and Nine have running coverage with Seven not even bothering.
I remember this. Ten had just lost its rugby league broadcast rights after it went bankrupt, and Nine picked up the Winfield Cup and State of Origin rights while Seven got the test matches. IIRC Nine eventually secured the tests in 1994.
TV Week Adelaide listings: Saturday, January 28th, 1995
Kellie Sloane was 24 when she joined Nine as a reporter on Money in 1997. She must be one of the youngest journos to ever present a metro bulletin if she was reading news on Ten in 1995.
Was Bugs Bunny at 6:30pm filler programming incase the cricket didn’t overrun?
Ten still closing in 95
She was probably filling-in for Marina Emsley during the summer non-ratings period.
