So I’m assuming Sunrise was rested at this time.

When did they launch the 10.30am Morning News bulletin ?

I have no idea why all three commercial stations in Melbourne had news on at 6.00pm. Was there a demand to see a sports report or something?

Nine and Seven were at 6.30 weeknights but 6.00 weekends. Ten was 6.00 every night.

Interesting to see Greg Evans hosting specials on Ten after Together Tonight flopped the year before and two years before the Perfect Match phenomenon.

Nine had afl shown at 11:10pm in NBN, Channel 9 Sydney and Channel 9 Brisbane. In Channel 9 Melbourne, adelaide and Perth, They had to wait until 11:45pm to see the nrl match. GTV, NWS and STW did not have Nightline being telecasted (IIRC).
Stuart Little used to be on 10 back in 2003 but in 2005, it was shown on Channel 9.

Quite interesting to see a CTS-31 guide there. Don’t think that community channel had guides in as many publications/online sites compared to TVS (which in the later/Digital TV years at least, had coverage in just about all newspaper and online TV guides) during its time on air!

That’s nothing compared to the NRL telecast (and presumably, AFL in the Southern states) being delayed by at least an hour due to Burke’s Backyard though.

Compared to how things were in 2003, NRL/AFL coverage on FTA TV is actually far better in both the majority & minority markets these days.

It was Stuart Little 2 which premiered on Nine in November 2005, can’t remember if they gained rerun rights to the original from Ten at that time though.

It still amazes me to this day, as people seem to be working later or with more flexible hours that TV news shifted earlier from 6.30 to 6.

I’m guessing that’s not going to change, because the main TV news bulletins probably skew old.

In a way though, I think both Seven & Nine have acknowledged that things are changing when their bulletins (aside from Seven Adelaide & Perth, where Today Tonight remains on air) extended to a full hour in 2014.

I’d be reasonably confident to predict that while the 6pm bulletin won’t be going away in the foreseeable future, both networks will eventually (although whether that’s in one year, two, five, ten or more from now, it’s hard to say for sure) have to produce news services which cater to the growing commuter market for the 6.30pm or even 7pm timeslot.

Also by this point in time, the 6pm timeslot on both Seven and Nine is so strongly associated with a news bulletin (apart from occasional timeslot shifts for sport or other special events it’ll be 30 years of near continuous bulletins at 6pm on Seven & Nine in August, if I’m not mistaken) that having anything else there just wouldn’t feel right.

With all the major changes there’s been in Australian Television over the past few decades, it’s probably for the best that both networks still have one or two things that their viewers can rely on.

The Easter Sunrise Service was a mainstay on Channel 7 for many years on Easter Sunday. I don’t think it gets screened anymore to my knowledge.

You can tell this was from 1998, they wouldn’t air either of these games in Melbourne on FTA in this day and age!

It’s on Nine.

Hard to believe there was a time when Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, The Young Doctors and The Flintstones used to screen at 6pm as a lead in to the flagship bulletins. 6.30pm would be the time Dad took control of the TV and the kids were banished from the lounge room if they couldn’t keep quiet during the news

Dad would take over the TV at 7 to watch Sale Of The Century so me and my brother would go watch Sons & Daughters on the black and white TV in the spare room

Possibly the last episode of the “original” Comedy Company before it went on an extended break and came back in July 1990 with mostly an all-new cast.
