As a kid, I loved Adventure Island with Sue Donovan (Jason’s mum) and John Michael Howson.

I’m amazed that Hawaii Five-O was on the ABC. It sounds like a very commercial product for Aunty back then.

the ABC had quite a few US prime-time shows in those days.

My favourite show circa 1975 apparently. I don’t really remember it but mum says I used to get upset if “Bench Island” was bumped off for cricket or a power strike or something. It was very popular but like its predecessor The Magic Circle Club it got axed very abruptly despite its popularity. But ABC never had the foresight to make it in colour so its lifespan in re-runs was very limited after colour TV came in. I think it last appeared on air during 1976.

The Australian Grand Prix in those days (before Adelaide hosted F1s for the first time in 1985) was purely an exhibition/made for television event. It did not count for points in the F1 championship. I’m sure all the regionals telecast the actual race the following day.

Also just FYI the Southern NSW listing of TV Week for the same day:

Plus TV Week’s preview of the Grand Prix coverage:

What aired in Brisbane in place of the race?

not sure. Being a Saturday/Sunday afternoon in November I can’t think what other pressing engagement BTQ7 might have had in favour of showing the car race.

With Perth’s Telethon kicking off tonight for another year (this is its 49th IIRC), here is how Telethon was being broadcast 40 years ago, in 1976.

Stuart Wagstaff, Denise Drysdale, Jeanne Little and the cast of Number 96 were among the celebrity guests coming over from the east coast.

I notice the first Sammy Awards were on BTW/GSW, and Variety Italian Style was at 7:30pm on VEW though it was always a daytime program on Ten in Sydney.

There wasn’t really any concept of daytime on VEW8 in those days so everything was prime-time

And despite the listing calling it a “direct telecast”, the Sammy Awards were a delayed telecast. They took place on 7 October.

Some new TV listings for today, 19 October.

Oh god that brings a lot of memories back. When the teacher would wheel out the 20 year old TV and show us something from this. Oh that theme still rings in my head today! @SydneyCityTV onya for capturing this!

Anyone have a weekend schedule from about '04 to about '08? Would be much appreciated!
