Sure. Any reason?

just to reply to my own post
it seems SBS’s extended Friday line-up was not necessarily a special occasion. Searching the Trove archive, The Canberra Times had a similar schedule for SBS on the previous Friday.

And also here’s the same day, 25 September 1987, this time for Brisbane (exc. SBS) and regional Queensland. Source: TV Week.

I thought Romper Room was always a 7 show but I’m sure I’ve now seen it listed in various classic guides as 7, 10 and even 9. Similarly, I thought Bewitched was on 0-10 in the early days (I know the decades of repeats have been on all commercial networks) but it’s on 7 in that 1974 listing. Interesting. :grinning:

Romper Room has had various versions over the years, both local and national. QTQ9 Brisbane produced a local one for several years, as did SAS10 Adelaide and even NBN3 Newcastle.

ATN7 Sydney had its own version which later went national across the Seven Network which essentially replaced the various local versions although I think NBN kept theirs going for a while longer.

Bewitched was initially on the 0-10 stations but later moved around. I remember it being on Seven when I was young but since then it has been on all of Seven, Nine and Ten. At one point in the 1990s it was showing on both Seven and Ten, I’m assuming they had different seasons.

In Sydney Romper Room was always on Seven.

One famous oddity in 1974 was that Margaret Whitlam made a talk show for HSV7 Melbourne, but ATN7 declined to buy the program and it appeared on TEN10 in Sydney.

Found this on Reddit - It’s from Melbourne in 1988

For those of you playing along at home that TV guide is from February 23, 1988.

The Sydney programing schedule for that day is mostly similar, with a couple of notable differences. In particular, the local 9am program on Ten (perhaps unsurprisingly, titled “Good Morning Sydney”) while Terry Willesse Tonight was still running on ATN-7. Hinch made it’s Sydney debut on April 4, 1988.

Interesting how many Daytime soaps were on back then

Interesting how Australia’s two main TV networks (well the main channels anyway) went from a wide variety of programs to basically being news half the time.

and we only got a fraction of them. There still titles in the US that never even got here.

True I remember when I was in the states back in the mid 90s they could not believe we did not have Guiding Light in Australia

At least Seven gave us Passions.

Based on these old guides, it doesn’t look like Seven aired any soaps from the US during the day? Passions might have been their first.

Possibly although Seven in Perth used to have Days Of Our Lives and The Young And The Restless while Nine had those shows in other states.

Ahhh, the good ol’ coin flip days. I’m surprised that the ACCC equivalent back then (was there even an ACCC equivalent?) didn’t raise some questions about anti-competitive behaviour

Perth (STW) was also close to 5 years behind Nine on the East Coast (Meaning at the time a total of about 8-9 years behind the US) on DOOL and Y&R as late as the Early 2000s. My parents had a family friend at that time
since they’d moved from Melb-Perth to try and keep up with what was broadcast on the east coast they’d have friendsend recorded VHS tapes to them every week.

Not actually sure how STW resolved that (if they even did) as it was some years before Nine skipped several years on a national basis.

Sydney, 4 October 1970, The Sun-Herald. It was back when ATN7 would have a lunch break during the coverage of the Hardie-Ferodo 500.
