interesting also to see Brian Tait listed as newsreader for Seven and also appearing on Nine’s variety special the same night.

Elsewhere, Anything Can Happen may be an Adelaide production (hosted by Bob Francis), and Stars Of The Future (TVQ0, midday) I think may have been from Seven in Perth?

Is it just him yelling out insults like dickbrain to punters?

Come 1973, they would start using the same logos as ATV-0.

Simpsons Roasting On an Open Fire is The Simpsons’ series premiere. Was this the first airing of The Simpsons in Australia?

They don’t have any of Cosby’s television shows available, but Google Play has multiple Bill Cosby movies, comedy albums and ebooks available to buy and download. I find it odd that his television work has been banished but his other work is available.

No, the first ever ep of The Simpsons to air in Australia was Bart The Genius, which aired here on 10th February 1991.

Although technically the first episode (it’s certainly included in the Season 1 boxset I have), I was under the impression that Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire was a Christmas Special which aired in December 1989 in the US with the full series really starting sometime in Early 1990 with Bart The Genius being the first official episode…or something like that.

Since the guide doesn’t state that the episode is a repeat screening, I reckon Ten likely would’ve held off showing Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire until November 26 because that’s a bit closer to Christmas than February 10 is!

Yes, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” was indeed intended as the Christmas special, produced as the 8th episode of Season 1. The intended season premiere “Some Enchanted Evening” had problems in animation, and instead aired in the US as the Season 1 finale. The following episode “Bart The Genius” was shown as intended as the second episode.

Oprah airing at 11pm is interesting, was it the following year that she made it to Ten’s daytime schedule?
Also Ten airing a whopping 4 US soaps during daytime during this period, that wouldn’t last long.

It’s strange to see that ATV10 was airing a 2pm bulletin. Did that last long?

VIC TV would have been getting heavily Nine orientated by then as it was only a month away to aggregation. Does not seem twenty seven years ago I’m feeling old.
