blame the Americans who seemed to love that format for years and years :man_shrugging:

Interesting to see that CBN8/CWN6 didn’t show the Bathurst 1000 live. Must have been similar host city rules to Cricket and Aussie Rules back then, too.

This Northern NSW edition wasn’t available in the Lower Hunter where I lived. From memory it was “Coastal NSW” that had Sydney and Newcastle only. When we went to Canberra we’d stop in at Goulburn and I’d get the regional NSW edition. So I’m loving these down memory lane posts you do!! Thank you!

Like you could get into Bathurst on race weekend back then. In my day, certain individuals left Bathurst on race weekend because they were the sad targets of bogans trying to crack onto uni girls.

Not me though, I was trying to sneak in to the race.

This Taree “Manning River Times” guide from 25-28 April 1985 intrigued me as

a. NBN never called their 6pm bulletin the “Good Evening News” so where they got that from, I have no idea

b. Nine’s news were screened on ECN 8. Was ATN-7 doing one hour news then too? Interesting that local news was after the Sydney bulletin, that was rarer back then.

some of our NSW locals might confirm but i think it is a name NBN did use at some stage. Maybe obsolete by 1985 but probably still just getting published.

I’ve seen NBN stills with Good Evening News.

RabbitEars beat me to the still.

Weird name, Good Evening News. As opposed to Bad Evening News, The Shitty Day News, and my personal favourite, The F**k Off News.

If you’re going to keep that theme, you’d have the Good Morning News, Good Afternoon News and the Good Night News.

Thanks, I do not remember that at all.

It comes up from time to time on their clip shows marking whatever anniversary or relocation they’re doing.

Found some more from summer 2006/07. One I think is a repeat, but is from the SMH. The other is a guide for seven days that appears to be at the end of survey period.

I have found some from 1998/99 when the Telegraph was just 80 cents. Will post soon.

If you look at the guide from 1985, ABC National was at 6:30pm. Could NBN have temporarily used the Good Evening News brand to compete name wise.

Also I think the 6:30 Local News on ECN8 could have been to try and discourage viewers turning to ABC for National News as National News was at 6

Which is why only AFL games at the SCG/Gabba/Subiaco/WACA/Footy Park were seen live in Melbourne. Until pay tv started they were very protective about the gate.

And what were you doing buying those, pray tell?

Surely not just for the TV guides?

my grandmother bought The Women’s Weekly every week/month, i just souvenired some of the TV guides :stuck_out_tongue:

Same with Woman’s Day which ran the TV Day insert in 1981-82.

However, in more recent years I have bought a handful of vintage WW and WD magazines literally just for the TV insert/guides.
