Classic TV Listings

2013 was when news bulletins were one hour on weekends.

2014 was when the East Coast edition of Today Tonight was axed, it was replaced with a 1hr edition of Seven News

What was ABC4? Is that a mistake?

I think it was ABC4KIDS, wasn’t it?

Yes

Yep. ABC4 Kids during the day on ABC2 which was confusing

They should have a 24/7 kids channel airing classic kids shows from the 90s similar to Nick @ Nite for 90s kids.

In Sydney at least, the one hour bulletins on 7 and 9 came about after the bushfires in 2013. Both networks ran hour long bulletins during the crisis and they stayed that way.

They pinched that from NBN.

I think Nine Sydney trialled the 1 hour format for a few months before other states followed suit.

Seven then followed suit to match Nine.

:100: spot on! I remember the AFL Foster’s Cup coming on in February of 1992, then Prime would go back to an indent which would just keep looping until full broadcasting commenced in March.

ABC, Nine and 10’s evening schedule (For all States and Territories) for September 15 of 2000:

ABC
8:00 pm - Royle Family
8:30 pm - McCallum
10:10 pm - Last Word
10:30 pm - Lateline

Nine
6:30 pm - A Current Affair
7:00 pm - Sale of Century
7:30 pm - Best of Burkes Backyard
8:30 pm - Farscape
9:30 pm - Movie: Almost an Angel
11:30 pm - Nightline (Olympic Games Special Edition presented by Hugh Riminton from near the Sydney Harbour Bridge)

10
7:00 pm - Seinfeld (Rpt)
7:30 pm - Movie: Matilda
9:30 pm - Movie: Naked Gun
11:15 pm - 10 Late News and Sports Tonight (Olympic Games Special Edition?)

Note that these were during the Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony for viewers in Australian Captial Territory, New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria. I know that in Western Australia, the Opening Ceremony on Seven wrapped up following ABC News Western Australia on ABC, Sale of Century on Nine and Repeat Episode of Seinfeld on 10. Viewers in Western Australia also saw Seven News Western Australia at 7:30 pm local time followed by an encore screening of the Opening Ceremony. What was Seven’s evening Schedule for South Australia and Queensland on September 15 of 2000?

Probably the same as Sydney and Melbourne, except 30 minutes (SA), and one hour (QLD) earlier.

You’d like to think Seven News Queensland on September 15 of 2000 aired at 5:00 pm local time and viewers in South Australia saw Seven News South Australia local time at 5:30 pm.

You’ve just reminded me of something that 10 did during the 2000 olympics. They had this thing where they had Rove on screen saying something along the lines of “We’re briefly interrupting programming so you don’t miss any of the action”. It was so that people could watch an Australian Gold Medal event on 7. 10 just threw on a music video and when the even finished, it was back to normal programming.

Do you remember what music video it was? My guess is that is would’ve been Robbie Williams’ Rock DJ, some Britney Spears one or even Madonna’s Music or maybe On a Night like this by Kylie

I would imagine that 10 were running “Coming soon” trailers of Rove’s then new Talk Show during most of the Sydney Olympic Games and Zampakid does have a “New Australian Shows” promo clip on YouTube which aired in South Australia during the evening of the Closing Ceremony and Rove was featured on it. Rove live premiered eight days after the Sydney Olympic Games ended.

I also came across a few “Entertainment Network” promo clips which also aired during the Sydney Olympic Games on 10 and also a full episode of Pepsi Chart Show during day three.

Anybody Have The Sydney And/Or Melbourne TV Listings For November 22 1998?

25 years is approaching, so I’d decide to share what Seven and 10’s afternoon schedule for January 1 of 2000 was:

Seven
AFL States (Local Time)
12:00 PM Movie: Two Weeks with Love (1950)
2:00 PM Movie: Alamo (1963)
5:00 PM Seven Nightly News Special: 1999 - The Big Picture

NRL States (New South Wales, Queensland)
12:00 PM Movie: Two Weeks with Love (1950)
2:00 PM AFL Ansett Cup Replay - Millennium Match: Carlton vs Collingwood
4:30 PM Get Smart
5:00 PM Seven Nightly News Special: 1999 - The Big Picture

10
Network (Local Time in all States and territories)
11:30 AM Ocean Girl
12:00 PM Bright Ideas: Home Improvement Show
2:00 PM Movie: Hatari (1962)
5:00 PM 10 National Weekend News at Five.

Note: ABC and Nine continued having 2000 Today and Millennium Live running respectively well into late evening. Very surprising to see Seven have limited coverage even with the launch of a new emblem.

ABC and Nine were rights holders to their respective event telecasts (2000 Today and Millennium Live) in collaboration with overseas networks. Seven, Ten and SBS were not members of those telecasts.

Nine’s coverage was in jeopardy when the Millennium Television Network organising the global link-up collapsed just days before New Year’s Eve, leaving Nine to scramble together access to alternative satellite links to be able to maintain its advertised 20+ hour telecast.

Nine ended up pinching feeds of other broadcasters, including TVNZ, and the BBC, who both rang Nine to complain. They also tried to prevent the ABC from showing the Sydney Harbour fireworks.
