Today’s TV: Friday 11 March 2005, Perth

The Jerry Springer Show used to air on CHannel 10 in 2005 but stopped.
It was quite strange that they had an AFL on Channel Nine (which would be played on a Saturday night). That night would be the Carlton-West Coast Wizard Home Loan Grand Final which would be televised live into WA.

I think it was on their daytime schedule for a while. I remember it being on back in 2000.

As for the AFL, It appears the broadcast rights for the Pre-Season Grand Final would alternate during the 2002-2006 period when 9 and 10 had the FTA rights. So in 2004 10 aired the final and 2003 was aired by 9.

For those wondering Carlton would beat West Coast 111 to 84, Carlton would go on to finish 16th that season claiming the wooden spoon. While West Coast would finish 2nd but only on Percentage Points as they had equal points with Adelaide (68) who won the minor premiership. West Coast would go on to make the 2005 AFL Grand Final only to lose to the Sydney Swans by 4 points as the Swans ended the longest premiership drought in the league’s history (thus leaving me a crushed 12 year old)

Jerry Springer was in there for years. I was thinking about it which led me to watch a bunch of clips online a few months ago. Hilarious watching it all grown up now, so I understand it very well.

WIN Television televised a repeat of The Simpsons at 5pm (which was quite strange).

This was WIN’s peak, owning Nine Adelaide and Perth. All downhill from there once they sold, WIN also broadcasting a mix of Nine and Ten in WA, look at the depth of that schedule, much better than the rubbish that infiltrates large parts now.

The Moomba Procession is broadcast live on all five channels, even SBS. This year I don’t even think it’s getting covered at all on TV.

Nine showing it for the shortest time - 30 minutes, while the others gave it a full hour. Unsurprisingly, longest length went to I presume the media partner of the time - Seven.

WIN WA was a Nine/10 affiliate then. They screened a lot of 10 shows.

They did screen some shows from Ten, but most were from Nine. That day, WIN screened Friends, Neighbours, The Simpsons and The Late Show with David Letterman. The rest were from Nine or WIN’s own.

On that day, the Melbourne 2006 Games was shown live around Australia on the Nine Network. I noticed that Nine News Perth and Temptation was shown late at 8pm and 8:30pm respectively, which was very strange. (I think this saw ratings to fluctuate due to timezone difference). Bert’s Family Feud didn’t go to air in Perth on that day.
In WIN Territory, they had Temptation Game Show at an earlier time at 3pm (which was unusual during the day) followed by Hi5 and Streetsmartz. TEN News showed at a later time at 8pm (which was quite unusual).
On the ABC, they showed one hour highlights of the Torino Paralympic Games.

What was more unusual is that WIN WA chose to temporarily air Ten Late News / Sports Tonight for the rest of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, presumably because delaying Ten News Perth 5+ hours wasn’t practical.

That’s got to be one of the later ones that did that style of by the hour guide rather than the network columns.
