i suppose it gave GG readers something else to complain about rather than the usual pedantry around how ABC newsreaders pronounce words

yes, lots of those too! As well as lots of letters complaining about too many commercial breaks. Until Fairfax/Nine started tinkering with the Green Guide in recent years the letters page was essential reading every Thursday! The best of the more recent letters were read in a podcast “I Love Green Guide Letters”.

Foreshadowing the lousy treatment that Nine gave to HBO programming for another decade after Ten picked up Larry Sanders. So many complaints about how late The Sopranos start time was over the years in particular.

This was likely due to the content of the show though surely? If it got an earlier time slot it likely would have gotten butchered with edits. Though I recall in 2011 when it was airing on 7mate it used to air at like 1am and those airings were my introduction to the series.

Nope, it was getting bumped from 9:30pm to 10:30pm or later as well as overruns from programming airing prior that caused the bulk of the complaints.

This is why Australian commercial TV networks do not even bother with US comedy/drama anymore.

I remember Tony Martin talking about it on Get This.

I think this was the race in question…

Really late reply, but definitely a typo. TNT and TVT still had their own news bulletins despite being under the same ownership. Similar to the situations of BTV/GMV and BCV/GLV in Victoria back then except for the composite nature of the Tasmanian bulletins.

That same TV Week also had a typo for Sunday’s guide, with Peter Sharp and Colin McNiff credited as hosts of World Of Sport on both stations, but they were only hosts of the TVT version. The TNT version I believe was hosted by Shane Yates and Peter Gilligan in that particular year.

What is Plastic Man about? Plus why was Taggart on Nine as it always been associated with ABC

What was the BTQ Spastic Appeal about? How many years did it run for?

I think that it would have been to raise funds for a group that used to be called “The Spastic Centre”. It’s now called the Cerebral Palsy Alliance as the term “Spastic” is now no longer considered appropriate, even if it is used in the correct context.
