Hosted by Gordon Elliott and Katrina Lee. A cheap knock off the the variety format filled in that timeslot by The Mike Walsh Show that was pending a move to night time.

I think Ten had ambitions of taking over owning the midday timeslot over the summer before Nine launched The Midday Show with Ray Martin in February 1985.

Good Afternoon Australia then was re-launched as After Noon, on the same day that Nine debuted The Midday Show. Elliott was replaced by Tony Murphy. After Noon was gone after a few months.

Hitch and Mitch presenting on the same bulletin?

Not sure those commercial news presenter listings would be correct for a Sunday so close to christmas?

Could be. Mark Ferguson is still presenting in Sydney and it’s the same date as that listing.

Slightly off topic, the TV Week record rack will still be pretty useful today with the vinyl revival.

I can recall Naylor reading right up until Christmas most years, so Hitch reading on the weekend before seems about right. Michell did read and report sport at Nine and I have a faint memory of a double header weekend sport.

I don’t recall Walden or Johnston and Pearson reading on weekends back then so that seems a bit iffy.

Brian Naylor hosted Carols By Candlelight for ten years, so it is conceivable that he presented the news up until Christmas.

Mal Walden used to read the news on Seven on Sunday nights for a time. Not sure if he did Sunday to Thursday, he might have even done Sunday to Friday in those days.

I don’t recall David and Jo doing weekends or Sundays at Ten, but it is possible, I guess.

Today’s TV: 22.12.1977, Melbourne

After 6 years and 1218 episodes, the final episode of Number 96 airs on ATV0, four months after airing in Sydney.

And on the next night, the final episode of Bellbird on ABC, ending a 10 year run.

I’d prefer to watch quite a few of these shows over anything that is scheduled to air on FTA TV tonight. I’d find it hard to choose between Cop Shop and The Rockford Files at 8.30pm.

Be interesting to know the logic behind WIN News in Toowoomba at 6.30pm while it’s 6pm in Rockhampton, Cairns and Townsville.

Was it a possibility recorded from RTQ so Rockhampton was live at 6 and Toowoomba could also be live at 6.30?

WIN still had their Toowoomba news bulletin recorded from DDQ in those days. Not sure why they decided to air it at 6.30pm, but I assume they went to 6pm after the Toowoomba news was moved to RTQ. The timeslot change was around 1994 according to some of the Sunday Mail guides I’ve researched.

This is WIN’s Toowoomba news promo from 1992:

I figured the 6.30 slot for Toowoomba local news was to avoid competing directly with the 6.00 Brisbane bulletins. Many people in Toowoomba received the Brisbane stations directly.

I remember at the time that The Pretender was the only show from NBC Studios not shown on Seven, as the network had a long term deal with NBC. It was distributed by 20th Television which was a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox.

Love the format on your listings, just a minor adjustment. The call sign for Prime in Canberra is CBN34. The RVN call sign was merged into CBN with aggregation.

Channel 2 was RVN’s analogue channel in Wagga Wagga.
