EDIT: I removed my reference to Olivia Newton-John special airing on the night in Melbourne being same as the one that aired in Sydney on 14 February, but this was a different program to the one mentioned by @Newsweary which was from 1983. I read the year wrong

Eh? The Daytona 500 used to air on Nine? Wow. Never knew that.

Nine had lots of overseas motor sports back in the day

From Nine to not even be shown Live.

It was the 80s, if they chose to delay the broadcast you just had to suck it up. Spoilers were not exactly an issue

It’s not shown live in 2019. It used to be shown live on Fox Sports. They show a Highlights package the night after the race which is a Tuesday.

Fox Sports with all their channels can’t show it live? :flushed:

I’ve discovered that 1982 one hour special was produced by Capitol Records to promote the “Physical” album. It screened in Sydney the same day. It featured new film clips, interviews and a segment featuring new boyfriend Matt Lattanzi. Parts of that special were considered too raunchy for the American audience and had to be re-shot or censored. Apparently the Australian audience got to see the uncut version.

The 1983 special mentioned yesterday was Olivia singing her hits at a concert venue in the US.

We had Olivia Newton-John’s Greatest Hits albums in the house as a child and I vaguely remember watching both of these specials.

The difference in the 10 logos between Melbourne and Adelaide is interesting. Was this reflected in the on-air presentation too?

Yes, all 4 members of the network had different logos. It wasn’t until 1985 that the 3 Ten’s shared the same logo. Brisbane was still 0 until 1988 and Perth started in 1988 also.

I notice that schools programmes are listed on ABC in Adelaide but not in Melbourne - were Victoria schools on holiday?

I remember both of these ONJ specials well. Had them on video tape for years.

Schools in Victoria then usually went back in the first week of Feb so I’m not sure why there is no schools programming on this day. When I check for the previous week and remainder of this particular week there are school programs. ABN2 Sydney also did not have any schools programs on 15 February but did for the rest of the week.

I can’t think of any public holiday being in February in those days, so I can’t explain why there are no schools programs on this particular day.

How long did Daryl Somers host Family Feud? I was only 2 in 1982 but i do have hazy memories of his time hosting it.

You know, that synopsis probably wouldn’t have looked entirely out of place in a Sydney or Brisbane TV guide (Replace “4” with “7” if ATN & BTQ had the rights to what was then VFL?) during the era before both cities received local teams! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

From 1980 (replacing Tony Barber who’d moved across to Sale Of The Century) to 1983.

Sandy Scott took over in 1984 but the show was axed soon after.
