Indeed 9 covered the International Rules from 2001-2005, both home and away series. They tried to time it in Australia to coincide with a big race meeting in Melbourne.

Bought a bunch of old TV Week’s a couple of years ago, and decided to have a read through some on a (rare!) Friday night off.

I found an old TV guide from Monday January 31 2005, which was the day Seven premiered Desperate Housewives following on from Lleyton Hewitt’s 2005 Australian Open Final the night before. The premiere drew more than 2 million viewers, and seriously began Seven’s assault on taking on Nine.

Hope these are readable. Apologies about the glare
This day would also have been the start of Liebo’s last two weeks on Today.
My collection mainly ranges from 2005-10 (basically whatever I could find on eBay). If anyone’s interested, I could post some more guides later on.

And Starstruck (The Australian Stars in their Eyes) Also Debuted That night On Nine, Only To went down Quickly.

This was a very historical time in the tv ratting landscape. After years of almost running 3rd in the ratings seven came out smashing Nine.

That week it premiered Desperate House Wife’s and Lost on a Thursday.

Dancing with the Stars, Border Patrol, Home and Away, Seven News, Today Tonight, Deal or No deal, Better Homes & Gardens and Sunrise all won their time slots.

Seven over took nine as number 1 network for at least 10 weeks straight.

And that night in my Grandmother’s spare room in her house in Roxburgh Park (she’s since passed on), I probably would have watched SBS (Mythbusters, Crank Yankers, Rockwiz, Queer as Folk, cult viewing even though they lost the Premier League rights at the end of the previous season)

If only Seven Adelaide (as it is now) continued to screen the Christmas Appeal today as its format was modelled on the Perth Telethon (SAS and TVW were co-owned at the time).

all 3 Adelaide commercial channels used to have an annual telethon. ADS7 had the Good Friday Appeal, although I vaguely recall they later moved it to the weekend before easter, maybe to avoid clashing with the Melbourne Good Friday Appeal potentially seeking to use the same network stars.

NWS9 had an annual telethon each December, and then SAS10/7 had its Christmas telethon usually around late October. I think SAS ran its last telethon in the early 90s.

and in Melbourne all three networks had annual telethons: apart from HSV7’s Good Friday Appeal, GTV9 had the Yooralla telethon on the last Saturday in February (it ended in 1980), while ATV0/10 had a telethon in aid of the Nerve Deafness Foundation.

NWS9 Showed 60 Minutes at 6.30pm. I’ve never seen it in that timelsot before in that era. Obviously the programme was microwaved linked to Adelaide prior to broadcast in those days for broadcast when they wanted. However, 99% of the time it was seen at 7.30pm nationally for both metro and regional.

So when was the first live race broadcast on Australian TV? was that 1978?

Or did a few stations show it live throughout the early 1970s?
