I was going to comment on this too. Quite bizarre and I don’t remember it - mustn’t have lasted too long.

Maybe they were going through a phase of ditching infomercials during the late 90’s or something.

Extra: Week commencing 2 March 2002
from the NZ Listener

In March 2002, Prime entered into a joint venture with Australia’s then leading broadcaster, the Nine Network.

The joint venture enabled Prime to access Nine’s own programming, and to gain leverage from Nine’s positioning in the international television market. Prime could offer first-run movies and series from the USA with the added impetus of fresh and exciting programmes from Australia. In a determined demographic broadening strategy, the all-new Prime Television would provide ample new opportunities to viewers and advertisers alike.

A preview of Prime’s new look in 2002 was detailed in a “TV Week” feature from the NZ Listener (below).

C4

On Friday 3 October 2003, TV4 was relaunched as C4 - the music channel.

C4 was free to air music television running daily from 4pm through to midnight, extending to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

When C4 began it offered interactive music programming from 4pm through to 7.30pm on a daily basis where viewers could choose the videos they wanted to see via text. Later in the evening more genre specific shows were screened, covering rock through to dance and hip hop, hosted by a number of specialist presenters.

American stunt comedy “Jackass” also screened on C4 along with “South Park” and New Zealand’s own “Pulp Sport”. 25% of videos played on C4 were local, demonstrating the current strength of NZ music. C4 was about adding meaning to videos and placed a special emphasis about how and why videos were made. It catered for the music intelligent and passionate.

C4 lineup this time 18 years ago is rather excellent with a music video and a male skew focus that replaced the unnecessary TV4 which programmes are not that good after the last new programme aired on the channel few years ago

Gee thanks… I guess I’ll go now.

Yeah, looking at the 2002 listings for TV4 indicated they had given up by then. Six hours of programming the rest of it infomercials.

C4 was a great addition for that time.

Do you know if this is a silent cartoon?

It was a cartoon series for preschool children… I think.

@OnAir @Leotv “Letter to Blanchy” - a sitcom about three unlikely characters (played by Jon Gadsby, David McPhail and Peter Rowley) who committed various outrages on the good nature of their long-suffering friend Blanchy - kicked off with an hour-long premiere on TV3 (now Three). It was first shown at 7.30pm on the evening of Friday 1 December 1989.

The sitcom was due to screen on TV3 next year, but, for financial reasons, this fell through and never happened. “Letter to Blanchy” was eventually picked up by TVNZ in 1995.

Three series were screened on TV One (now TVNZ 1) in 1995 (7 episodes), 1996 (11 episodes) and 1997 (13 episodes); the episodes were half an hour in duration.

Produced by Isambard Productions, “Letter to Blanchy” was the brainchild of the Christchurch-based AK Grant and McPhail and Gadsby. The sitcom was set in a kinder, gentler small town in New Zealand called Nettleton, where back doors could be left unlocked, although it was filmed on location in Auckland. The original “Blanchy” episodes - directed by Ian Mune - was filmed near Christchurch.

A book (with eight chapters) was published in 1997, and a theatre tour made in 2008.

Meanwhile, the final episode of “That’s Fairy Interesting (TFI)” - a homegrown take on the US show “That’s Incredible!” - was broadcast on Channel 2 (now TVNZ 2) at the same time as the premiere of “Letter to Blanchy”. Produced by Communicado for TVNZ, “TFI” showcased quirky people and events across New Zealand.

Mark Leishman, Juliet Monaghan, Phil Keoghan (who later became famous for hosting the US show “The Amazing Race”) and Vicki Walker presented the final programme from Fairlie (they thought it would be Fairlie (!) interesting), wrapping up with a repeat screening of the TFI’s best stories.

The final of “TFI” was followed at 8pm by a repeat screening of the 1986 musical fantasy film “Labyrinth”, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.
