Wow never knew Three had the rights to the Australian Open back then. If only it was still the case now. Rather surprised there was breakfast news on 2 and 3 and nothing on One back then.

@Leotv In November 1989, TVNZ introduced breakfast television via Channel 2 (as it was called in those days) with the inclusion of an early morning news programme at 7am and a short news bulletin at 8am. In early 1990 these were replaced with short news bulletins at 7am, 7.30am, 8am and 8.30am.

TV3 (now Three) had morning news bulletins during the Early Bird Show (EBS). These were shown half hourly between 7-9am on a weekday morning, but this didn’t last long as EBS was transferred to weekends and all morning programmes axed with the network beginning its weekday broadcasts at the later time of midday.

While Channel 2 commenced transmission at 6.15am, or 6.45am on weekends, with Teletext in Vision (a selection of in-vision pages from TVNZ’s now defunct teletext service) and then the first programme for the day, TV One didn’t start until late in the morning.

Thanks Paddy, now I have Honk Kong Phooey stuck in my head!

Scary thing is, I remember at least half of those programmes… on all three channels!

TVNZ 2’s saturday listings I think is what TVNZ 1 will look like in 2023/24 if the merger etc goes ahead
I actually mostly watched videos around this time as nz only. Had those 2 channels but hey I was young

@Blondie73 New Zealand had only two channels during the mid-70s and much of the 1980s.

Thanks @PaddyTePou, keep them coming! Do you have old TV Guide magazines?

@OnAir I have some of them but, although I try my best, I am still having trouble finding classic Kiwi TV listings online.

Some public libraries throughout New Zealand have older issues of the NZ Listener which include listings of iconic shows that us as Kiwis used to watch back in the day.

I thought there might have been at least something there from Australia but looks to be largely local, US and UK content.
