Had no idea this aired in NZ.

@OnAir For the last few months of 1993 “Ray Martin at Midday” (formerly “The Midday Show with Ray Martin” and, later, “Midday with Ray Martin”) was broadcast in New Zealand on TV One.

On Australia’s east coast (i.e. New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and parts of Queensland), the programme was live to air on the Nine Network. But here in New Zealand (I think), “The Midday Show” was pre-recorded and the shows were flown across the Tasman for broadcast on TVNZ the next week - after Channel Nine had played them.

Within the next year, Ray Martin moved to Nine’s “A Current Affair” and was replaced as host of “The Midday Show” by ex-pat New Zealander Derryn Hinch.

I had no idea Ray Martin’s Midday Show made it to New Zealand. Back in the 1980’s, every regional station in Australia showed Midday with Ray Martin and I mean every regional station.

The 2003 final of “Australian Idol” - won by Guy Sebastian - was broadcast on TV2 (now TVNZ 2) at 9.30pm on the evening of Wednesday 19 November 2003.

He would have a successful music career for the next 18 years including 3 Australian number one albums and six number one singles

I can remember picking up the TV2 signal that night via trans Tasman sporadic E (VHF Ch 1 from Hikurangi) and seeing that Australian Idol final in all its Sporadic E fade up and down glory. It was about 2 seconds behind the Ch 10 telecast.

Also of note the live broadcasts of Today and National Nine News direct from Sydney on Prime when Nine owned it. When I was in Hamilton in Feb 2006, Breakfast was off the air because of the Turin Winter Games and Today was on instead. Also good to get my local news internationally too.

I remember the today show airing on Prime late as early January 2008 when they stopped it after SKY TV took over Prime

So interesting to see Christchurch had such a competitive local news market with CTV, CHTV and Prime Local News all competing for Cantabrians on top of One and 3 News. One has to wonder why Auckland never had such fierce competition for local news considering it’s size to Christchurch.

I’d say it was probably because the networks were based in Auckland.

CHCH in the late 90’s - c2002 were halcyon days all right! It all ended up being thoroughly unsustainable though, Prime gave up on news, CHTV rebranded to Now TV and then merged with CTV (The colour’s on the top of the CTV building were based on the last indent of Now TV), and the other local channel, Freedom TV (religious) morphed into Shine (and went nationwide via satellite).

Why TV3 airing Behind the sciences of ER whereas TV2 having the rights?

“Behind the Scenes of ER” was a one-off special as seen on TV3 (now Three) in an 11pm slot. TVNZ secured the broadcast rights to “ER”.
