@OnAir In the year of his knighthood, the late Sir Howard Morrison got to fulfil a long-held dream - playing with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. A Sir Howard Morrison special - recorded at the Aotea Centre in Auckland - was broadcast on TV One (now TVNZ 1) at 8.30pm on the evening of Friday 12 October 1990.
Sir Howard was joined by the late, great Billy T James as they sang a cover version of “My Old Man’s an All Black”, and surrounded by former All Black Buck Shelford to lead the haka alongside Temuera Morrison.
You can watch one of Sir Howard’s classic concerts via NZ On Screen by clicking its link above.
Over on Channel 2 (now TVNZ 2), Margaret Mahy’s “Strangers” - a six-part children’s drama of mystery and magic from TVNZ - was being repeated on Fridays as part of “3.45 Live!”. The series featured a young cast which included Martin Henderson (in his screen debut), Hamish McFarlane (fresh from Vincent Ward’s “The Navigator”), Joel Tobeck and deaf actor Sonia Pivac. You can watch all episodes of “Strangers” via NZ On Screen by clicking its link above.
