the inconsistency of the CBS still in TT Norms, and the Evening News in Didot is bothering me right now, not to mention that promo on Twitter looking very ameteur as well

CBS had a good branding system a couple years back, why are they messing it all up

Such a shame feels like a step back in time.

I wonder if they run the graphics by the presenter at all? Each presenter gets their own brand once or twice. I know if my name was in the title I’d want an input in the graphics.

Garbage graphics for a soon to be garbage news program.

Hastly done, slogan vague, all caps. Let’s see how it’s like on screen the day before Jan 6.

A reminder that this is the project page for the current package. Much more intricate and human than this forthcoming one IMO…

IMHO, I’m less concerned with what CBS has done than with the why and how behind it. If the “new era” is truly about targeting younger audiences, then why not be bolder—more innovative in ways that actually match the network’s stated ambitions?

Feels like the same kinda logic that caused all those weird things on Nine Melbourne in the 00s with them rejecting the network package, using the old theme music etc - that somehow the modern look is the real reason for viewer churn and some ugly old fonts and sets will fix the problem.

I would think they should probably first look at rolling back a bit more on how they’ve trashed local news brands in favour of the “CBS City Name” branding - hard to set the national newscast apart when the local bulletin doesn’t feel local.

What a shame they’ve ditched the current look. So classy.

Talk about revert to an old looking dinosaur network.
This does nothing to stand out from the identity of NBC news. If anything it’s boring, dated and lacks creativity.

What a shame they didn’t evolve the current package.

comparing to the Dan Rather era in the 2000s, this design is a huge backstep

And here I thought Susan Zirinsky was an awful head of news, but Bari Weiss is certainly doing her best to outwit Zirinsky in terms of being the worst in the country (bar Fox).

Saw a promo saying the bulletin would not be presented in studio but on location in various cities.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH TONY DOKOUPIL is meeting people where they are – sharing the most urgent, important stories with Americans, rather than talking to them. To offer a fuller picture of the country, a closer look at the neighbors they share it with and the challenges we face together, Dokoupil will get out from behind the anchor desk and travel across the country.

Introducing LIVE FROM AMERICA – 10 cities in 10 days.

For his first night as anchor of the CBS EVENING NEWS on Jan. 5, Dokoupil will be in Miami, the kickoff for two weeks of the CBS EVENING NEWS broadcasts from the road. In a new city each day, Dokoupil will meet Americans face to face. This road trip builds on Dokoupil’s more than two decades of journalism spanning the country and on the instinct that has defined his coverage: to follow the story, talking not only to newsmakers, but to the people most affected by the news.

“Growing up a bit ramshackle, moving between Florida, Maryland and West Virginia, traveling the country playing high school and college baseball, I learned to love talking to new people. As a journalist, I realized there are some things you’ll never understand until you’re standing there with the people in the middle of it,” Dokoupil said. “Being there, and bringing others there, is what I love most about this job, and what makes me so excited about this trip.”

“Tony’s superpower is listening to people. We want to serve Americans in the best way possible by meeting them where they are every night – and we’ll do that with this cross-country kick-off tour,” said Kim Harvey, executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS.

Then there’s this.

What a stupid gimmick. Does anybody actually change the newscast they watch just because the guy who presents it comes to visit them? Why doesn’t CBS, like their sister networks overseas have, just admit that nothing they’ll ever do will ever give them any ratings.

CBS has officially jumped the shark. Walter Cronkite would be rolling in this grave if he saw what has become of CBS Evening News.

They should’ve just kept Norah O’Donnell on the Evening News instead of messing the whole thing up every second phase of the moon.

The rot started when they demoted Scott Pelley back to 60 Minutes.

This era was too similar to the other network bulletins.

The most recent two anchor era was the closest it’s been since Pelly. Had the network not been bought by MAGAs, giving it time for the format and presenters to find their feet was all they needed to do.

I’ll believe it when I see it.
