CBS News

Yeah, I agree, it feels the change was too soon. I would have expected CBS Los Angeles to gradually start sneaking in the use of “CBS News” in place of “KCAL News” for like 5 years before flipping to this brand.

And even going with “CBS LA” doesn’t make sense to me because they’ve already been using “CBS News Los Angeles” for some time. Why not just go with that? And the newscast branding would have been simpler too (CBS News at 6:00, CBS News at 10 on KCAL etc).

Your prediction turned out to be true (paywalled):

This might finally end the current Evening News format, as Weiss is reportedly wooing Bret Baier away from Fox News as the new anchor of the broadcast, which could be a surprising move given Baier is signed with Fox until 2028. Additionally, he’s somehow one of the more tolerable Fox hosts, and could be somehow fitting for a more Fox-like CBS News.

We’ll wait and see how it finally develops…

The Titanic has hit the iceberg, might as well jump out before it starts sinking.

And it will sink fast.

You mean sinking?

Yep.

And CBS wonders why Evening News can never gain any traction to become competitive with ABC and NBC when they keep shunting/cutting/axing anchors who’s barely kept the seat warm.

ABC has David Muir for over a decade while NBC also had the decade-long Lester Holt until being replaced by Tom Llamas. Meanwhile CBS had more anchor changes in the last decade

And somehow every new one has a shorter tenure than the previous one.

Dickerson is essentially being pushed aside by Weiss — unlike previous anchor transitions at CBS, such as with Couric or O’Donnell, which mostly came down to ratings issues or creative disagreements over the format.

Bret Baier would be a ‘great’ addition to CBS News and a real asset to Vance and M.A.G.A—sorry, I mean the loyal CBS audience—especially during election coverage.

Let’s just hope he survives the fallout if he dares to report the actual results on election night.

CBS Mornings Plus and CBS Evening News Plus, the streaming spinoffs of the network’s morning and evening news programs, are being canceled, a source says.

Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, the co-anchors of the Saturday edition of the morning show, will exit the network as part of the cuts, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Deadline adds:

In all, the layoffs are impacting close to 100 CBS News staffers, according to sources familiar with the extent of the cuts.

The cuts were in the works before Bari Weiss was named editor in chief of the news division this month.

Also impacted by the cuts were correspondents Nikki Battiste and Janet Shamlian, the source said. Senior foreign correspondent Debora Patta, who has been reporting on the war in Gaza, has been based in Johannesburg. The Los Angeles Times reported that she was laid off as well, but a network spokesperson has declined to comment.

These plus programs must be duplicating quite allot of roles, did they not think of that earlier on?

Fantastic, great move, well done CBS.

Morons run that place.

Maybe Adriana and Vladimir can just do Saturdays?

The hell is happening at CBS

Bari is attempting to get rid of anyone she can’t convince to be a turncoat and support Orange.

Mornings has also never been competitive with Gayle at the helm (and the one constant) and she wouldn’t come cheap either, she’s had a good innings if they part ways with her. Maybe some change is needed?

FTFY. Like, ever.

i think really, US morning shows is really a two-horse race with NBC Today and GMA - i personally don’t think CBS has had any traction, if at all regardless of their attempts

They had some for a few years in the late 90s when Charlie Gibson stepped away from GMA to do 20/20 and the guy who replaced him (Global TV Canada’s Kevin Newman) had no chemistry with his co-anchor or any personality, but then Charlie was moved back and the Early Show quickly rushed back to 3rd.
