CBS News

Trump appears to want the American broadcast media to conform to his personal whims and ideology. If any outlet—aside from Fox News or Newsmax—presents a viewpoint that challenges his narrative or reports on events with factual integrity, their coverage is swiftly labeled as “fake news.” This holds true even when viewers and reporters have witnessed the events firsthand. In such cases, not only is the reporting discredited, but the ethics of the entire news organization are called into question.

This is the slippery slope to facism. It’s what authoritarians do. Discredit the legitimate media and therefore any questioning or opposition is diminished. This is why he is never challenged on his endless lies.

The news was mentioned in the closing remarks of tonight’s Evening News - in which Owens was the supervising producer. Dickerson commended him “a man of great integrity” and that he and DuBois “will always be grateful to him for his wisdom, his guidance and above all, his friendship”.

Obviously another bad news to the rapidly shrinking press freedom under the current US admin.

[Update 28/4] Also addressed at the end of this week’s 60 Minutes. Seems like the rumours of Para interfering so that the merger can go ahead are true.

More change at CBS News, seems to be last one standing, turn the lights off.

Literally trashing the best news brand in America to get the Skydance deal over the line. Utter shambles.

The endless cycle of change for CBS Evening News continues.

Their news division would’ve been fine if they hadn’t insisted on competing with World News Tonight/Nightly News and making drastic changes daily. Should’ve kept Norah O’Donnell and paired her up with one of the two male hosts instead of the current beefcake lineup we’ve got.

Disagree. Norah was cold and by all accounts behind the scenes difficult to work with.

I thought Jeff Glor was okay when he was at the helm of the Evening News.

CBS always quick to make change instead of sticking to the original plan.

They panic and are reactive yes. Don’t give time for things to bed in. They overhaul and don’t “tweak”

Sounds a bit like 10 in 2011

I got that impression too. Very flowery presenting style, came across very fake.

What?! :joy: yeah it’s two blokes but they’re not exactly presenting the bulletin shirtless and oiled up. Anyway not to worry. If Paramount are happy to sell out to Trump supporters and flush CBS’ reputation down the tubes then that’s their problem.

and here’s the thing… i thought the new format was a good point of difference!

Sad to see CBS (once again) get cold feet, and react like this…

I still don’t know what the problem was with Scott Pelley

Didn’t he complain about the work environment/conditions of staffers and got pushed out?

Similarly to everything CBS has done with EN over the last 20 years, he was pushed out after 5 years of stagnant viewership. Nothing has changed at all in terms of their viewership since then or any of the other iterations of the broadcast.
