So nice to have a darker set. The era of big screens all over sets has made them far too bright and garish.
They are similar to those used by The Guardian newspaper (both in print and online).
might work for 10 Late News tho
Some observations:
- Classy with surprisingly minimal graphics. May be clearer with the headline appearing for brief seconds at the start though
- The new studio looks nice. A bit emptier than all the deco pieces in the DC set, but still
- No cold open is a nice change of pace - especially off the back of recording at least 1 and a half minute of ABC News headlines!
- The split screen is very CBS Mornings-esque. The O&O countdown too, though not all of them do that (WBZ for example)
- What’s with ‘Eye on America America’? That styling reminds me of the old 10 TV Australia symbol…
- And I get that they wanted to show off their VR weather studio, but specfically throwing over to the meteorologist there feels unnecessary
I really like it!
I like the headline graphics too, the animations and execution is classy and sleek. My only criticism is that during the reports there were no straps for the people they were interviewing
Really interesting that ad break having the behind the desk camera on screen for the whole break. Imagine this is a loophole in their advertising guidelines?
their new format is very refreshing and i am such a fan of the new graphics
after a quick watch of the relaunch during my lunch break, i definitely am a fan of the new format too!
I like it but my only criticism is that the old theme feels slightly out of place with the look in my opinion everything else is nice but the top left bug that appears on stories looks slightly small when viewing on certain devices
Anna Coren with the final story on tonight’s CBS Evening News.
The new format is such a breath of fresh air. I hope it demonstrates to everybody else - cough TODAY cough - you don’t have to slavishly copy ABC’s formats to succeed.
Are you talking about Nine’s Today Show or NBC version??
I wonder if this set will be used for other programming as well. Seems like the set elements extend beyond the main space for the news and there is decorative lighting on the opposite side where the cameras are…
That entire backdrop is just big screens. The graphics artists did a good job making the backdrop look realistic.
That’s unreal. Fooled me!
Seems like the floor behind the desk is a massive screen too.
Also, tonight the broadcast did a walk-and-talk analysis of the crash, and I had thought this was all augmented reality…
… in fact, part of the studio floor is a GIANT display. Kind of explains why the desk is further forward from the rear displays.
Not really in a habit of watching US news bulletins but have been watching the new CBS Evening News this week and I do really like the format. Just watched todays edition and that segment analysing the crash and it’s quite amazing the versatility of the set. I too thought the ‘normal’ set side and rear walls were real. Really well done.
Watching it through the CBS News app though and all I get are 10 and P+ house ads which gets a tad repetitive and annoying lol.
It’s very repetitive isn’t it.
Hope they can work on that moving forward.
