Unsure, I guess all the resources aren’t ready just yet? Or perhaps what @BrekkyTV said.
Also interesting to note when re-reading the aforementioned article about the alignment of ‘CBS Mornings’, ‘CBS This Morning Saturday’, and ‘Sunday Morning’:
“The three morning broadcasts will share a similar look and editorial breadth,” reads the announcement.
Could we see ‘Sunday Morning’ adopt the new revised sun graphic and perhaps the CBS Network-wide typeface for the logo? They did update their social media banner to the same typeface in May, and somewhat similar colour palette:
Judging by the preview when the weekday show was named CBS This Morning, CBS Saturday Morning will be at the Time Square studios, as well. It’s just that it’s not appropriate in the United States to make relaunches on 9/11, and that commemoration fell on a Saturday this year.
Then why didn’t they hold off the relaunch for one/two weeks? This just smacks of shoddy planning removing the “This Morning” brand only for it to pop up a week later then disappear again.
In the US, the broadcast television season kicks off after the Labor Day holiday in the first week of September. The network morning shows aren’t airing normally this morning - GMA, Today and CTM were reduced in lieu of special reports from their respective news divisions. It would have been asinine to launch a new morning show today.
Looks like nothing much changed. Jane Pauley appears to be presenting from a green screen setup (from home maybe?) and the set still looks relatively the same (aka beige and boring but it’s visually a bit brighter).
I find it odd how they decided to stop using the blue/orange sunrise background a few years back in favour for the beige/yellow.
The original concept image by Jack Morton PDG in 2017 for current set (which replaced the original from 1979) was very lively and true to the original:
The only reason I can see that is reasonable (although still stupid) is that maybe for some of the topics they cover. The sunrise colors weren’t appropriate for the background - too happy?
You might be right but even so they could’ve gone for a generic light sky blue colour in those cases. They have the space and the set lit up like that so they might as well use it to the full potential. The current set up looks like their lights all blew up and meshed together into a blurry, hazy brown that reminds one of a polluted city, and worst part is they keep it for the whole episode. Might work for the 1970s/1980s/1990s, but not 2021.
As an aside, Nine’s former program Sunday took so much inspiration from this show, right down to set design and also the intro theme being played by an orchestra for some time in the 1990s.
With CBS Weekend News, CBS Mornings, and now CBS Morning News all (mostly) adopting the new Network-wide typeface and deconstructed eyemark presentation elements, I’d say we can expect at least one more graphics relaunch this year or the next, as CBS Evening News has retained the same typeface, though the new elements have made their way in:
The 10 logo actually lends its self to being incorporated into this package pretty easily. Would look awesome.
Interesting that the Americans have no problem with advertising where the national news is coming from (in this case Chicago).
Imagine the outrage if 10 weekend news was blatantly advertised as coming from Sydney. At least with the US they seem to share their broadcast locations around a bit more…
