Carols By Candlelight

She has left Nine, effective immediately.

Don’t you understand how contracts work? She has not even been given a chance to say farewell from Today.

As I said in another thread, Nine will have already changed the locks and taken her picture down from the foyer wall. She will be history to them now.

Rebecca Maddern would be the favourite, unless they want to prop up the new permanent Today host (if already known).

Even if Lisa Wilkinson wasn’t leaving Nine, I probably would’ve suggested that it’s time for some new Carols By Candlelight presenters this year anyway.

Rebecca Maddern would be a very good choice, especially with her ties to Melbourne. But overall, I’m not really phased about who’s going to be presenting a show which is essentially one big ad (not as much as Carols In The Domain on Seven mind you, but still) for Boxing Day Movies and Channel Nine programs coming in the new year.

Shelley Craft and Scott Cam are doing it.

Something for the Daily Mail?

Rebecca Maddern would be a good choice (given the years of questioning around two Sydney personalities hosting a Melbourne event).

But I’d think Sonia Kruger would be in the box seat, with David Campbell?

When I was a child I wondered why Melbourne had a music bowl named after Sydney. It didn’t make any sense.

Obviously never noticed the spellings? :stuck_out_tongue:

Sonia Kruger will replace Lisa Wilkinson as co-host, according to Sunday Herald Sun. Rebecca Maddern will have been a good choice but she is now pregnant and may want to take a break after filming Australian Ninja Warrior season 2.

Did these two get bumped after Cam’s unfortunate bad mouthing of a colleague on The Block?

Sonia Kruger presenting Carols By Candlelight? Well I think that’s many people’s Christmases ruined already! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Although it has to be said that Cross Promotion…I mean, Carols in the Domain on Seven (probably) a week earlier won’t be any better.

Oh, yeah. They were worried Scott Cam might call Shelley a bitch on Christmas Eve.

to be honest I reckon the hosts are the last thing people tune in to Carols for. As long as there is Denis Walter, Marina Prior and Sylvie Paladino I think all will be well :stuck_out_tongue:

With the massive ratings Carols gets on Christmas Eve (averaging ~1.5m metro alone over the past decade), you can see why Nine would still take it at least somewhat seriously & the Sydney hosts - on a national scale (as it’s always been).

Gets me every year!

Sonia Kruger will join returning host David Campbell on stage at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve to host the 80th Vision Australia Carols By Candlelight presented by Priceline.

The Today Extra hosts will be joined by a star-studded lineup of artists gracing the stage on Christmas Eve to perform Australia’s favourite Christmas carols.

Returning Carols favourites who will delight the audience include Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, Marina Prior, Silvie Paladino, David Hobson and Denis Walter.

“Watching Vision Australia’s Carols By Candlelight on Christmas Eve has always been a tradition for me and now to be part of it is the cherry on the Christmas pudding,” Kruger said.

“It’s a special time of year and I’m excited to be there to see the brilliant performances and absorb the atmosphere by candlelight.

Campbell said: “I cannot wait to share Christmas Eve with everyone again and this year I am even more excited to share it with my good friend Sonia. It’s set to be an amazing celebration of 80 years of this very special tradition”.

The beloved annual Christmas tradition originated in Melbourne in 1938 and this year marks the 80th anniversary. Carols by Candlelight is enjoyed by millions of viewers across each year with over 2.3 million viewers across the nation tuning in to share in the Christmas spirit in 2016.

Carols by Candlelight is Vision Australia’s biggest fundraiser, with 100 per cent of profits from ticket sales going towards services for children who are blind or have low vision. In 2016, thanks to the support of the Australian public, over $1.2 million was raised.

More performer announcements to come.

Yeah they are institutions. But that won’t last forever. eg Sadly we’ll never see Terry Gill as Santa Claus.
