Canberra Radio

Isn’t that the Concert in the Clouds tactic?

Hey, it was created in 2017 and only for Mix in Canberra. It’s not a network asset.

Oh, HI Wilko! When are they gonna update the logo for that younger station across the corridor?

That would be a board decision. Both sides have to agree to brand changes (or any change) and it’s not as simple because both of our streams don’t align with either network perfectly. It’s way above my pay grade but I would personally like other things to be upgraded before spending 80k on a rebrand. Canberra is its own beast because of the joint venture. Unless it hurts the brand I don’t think it’s a priority.

Wow, that’s not a nice way to talk about Courts.

Nowhere near the worst thing I have said about/to Courts.

Former Hit 104.7 announcer, Bryce Ruthven, is appearing on this season’s MAFS.

I’m willing to predict that we may see (or more to the point, hear) Bryce Ruthen became a 2DayFM breakfast presenter in a year or two.

A new program coming to late night on 2CA. From the website:

Hopefully it won’t be long until sister station 2CA gets a new look website, that one looks about ten years out of date.

That’s a good name for a program…

Conjures up images of Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis.

I had no idea 2CC was that local on the weekend. Good on them.

Spent a bit of time in Canberra over the weekend.

Some observations.

Really like the DAB setup (as posted by others in the Digital radio thread). Listening to FM and AM with decent audio is refreshing. Sure there are a few extra stations there but not overboard like Sydney and other cities. I am even happy the FM versions sound good on DAB. It really makes a difference. Although I still found myself using my analog pocket more often as the battery life is better. I did go for a drive up around Captains Flat… Even DAB reception was better than streaming audio. Thank god, as the kids wanted to listen to Peppa Pig on replay. . Telstra did not hold a steady enough signal to stream audio consistently.

ABC Grandstand has not been renamed as ABC Sport yet. I like how I could listen to NRL on Saturday afternoon on DAB where 666 had the AFL.

2CA vs 2UE? Well one good thing is 2CA has more life, however they are still scripted but better than nothing. Which station these days is not scripted? For the music mix it feels like it has gone safer on 2CA. 2UE has gone older since the the start of SEN on 1170. Although I don’t like all the songs 2UE play, it does sound different to 2CA. 2CA to me sounded a bit too WS FM like.

I tried tune into Braidwood FM 88.9. Canberra has patches of reception but it wasn’t good enough to listen in the car (unless you stop somewhere). For me Goulburn reception wise was much better. It was like SWR FM in my area up the Hornsby Shire. With HHH FM right next to it. In Goulburn it was JJJ on 88.7 FM. Towards Captain Flat there was pretty good reception but as soon as you go back down the valley to Queanbeyan the reception is patchy.

Looking at their playlist on Online Radio Box recently, I have noticed that 2CA is now playing more upbeat 80s hits than before, in which it’s sounding a bit more closer to what 2GN/2XL sounded like about a decade ago.

That being said, I’ve noticed on their website that they’ve brought back “Living In The 70s” on Sunday nights from 7-10pm, followed by their new feature program “Downunder Classics” from 10pm Sundays.

Paul “Holmsey” Holmes will be joined by Jen Seyderhelm from Monday 19th April to form The Classic Breakfast with Holmsey & Jen on 2CA.

First Canberra radio ratings survey of 2021 will be released tomorrow, anyone here willing to make any predictions?

Personally I’m expecting the status quo to remain: ABC Canberra, Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3 again as the top three, 2CA/2CC again down the bottom.

I am getting old too. But I remember Paul Holmes a lot younger. Where has the time gone ?

Canberra doesn’t really change much, as there’s effectively very little competition.

Stable rainfall, stable jobs and stable radio.
