No, not at all. Has been mentioned in the past. I just raised it as a possibility.
So it is!
The old Studio 1 long decommissioned
Three old guys watching Channel Nine clips.
Wasn’t Studio 1 used for children’s programming in the 90s?
Yes. All children’s shows, Family Fued and any other audience shows in its day. There was a small studio next to it which had the Sportsworld desk back in the late 80s /early 90s and of course the news studio.
I thought Sportworld was done from Melbourne?
So there were three studios?
For interviews mostly. Late 80s they had their own version.
In Orange today, went for a drive up to Mount Canobolas.
Some great views! Though very cool and windy, and no chance of DXing any FM radio up there due to overload from the 80kw ABC FM blowtorches.
Do you know which towers broadcast the commercial fm, and the Nationals?
No, but I can look it up when I get back home using Google Earth Pro and the downloadable KMZ placemarkers for TXs from ACMA.
That is a fantastic resource.
Not sure if anyone else picked up on this but there’s a FM broadcast transmission antenna (mixed polarisation) on the apex of the lattice mast on top of the studios.
Maybe this is a standby transmission antenna for the 95.9 ABC Western Plans service; that is meant to be transmitting from Buninyong Hill. But there is no ACMA entry for a standby FM antenna from the ABC studios.
