Why? Channel 4 don’t produce any programs - they’re a publisher-broadcaster.

I don’t think it is a sensible move (not least because if Channel 4 is profitable it’s a revenue source for the government) but I’m also not convinced by this argument.

That’s the problem with the right, who think there is something wrong when a government-owned company produces a profit. But it is actually a good thing because it reduces pressure on taxation.

Probably Boris Johnson idea.

In this country, Cadbury’s, Britain’s favourite chocolate [brand], was sold and they promised us the taste wouldn’t change, and now Cadbury’s tastes like a cheap bin bag. In this modern world, we all put up with it. We all go, ‘It’s not as nice as it was,’ and we don’t riot in the streets, we give up because we’re too busy staring at our screens. That’s what they’ve done, they’ve ‘Cadburyed’ it. They’re going to Cadbury the entire channel.

To be honest I’m not even sure there is much ministerial support for it. From what has been said so far (and as with any politician you take what they say with a pinch of salt) I think the outcome maybe that C4 remains public but is allowed to make changes which would make it more profitable.

ITV2’s reality show was watched by 2.47M viewers in a 90-minute slot from 9PM, according to BARB figures supplied by overnights.tv.

Love Island’s Season 7 launch rating was well below 2019’s premiere, which was watched by 3.3M. It was also down on last year’s winter edition, which drew 2.5M for its first episode. Indeed, it was the show’s lowest-rated premiere since 2017, when 1.3M tuned in.

And still more than 1.1M higher than that figure.

ITV is to launch shoppable TV, allowing viewers to discover and shop items from its programmes directly on screen, the first service of its kind in the UK. Viewers can initiate the shopping interface at any time by using their LG remote but must actively opt-in to receive the notifications and use the service.

The service launches during Love Island on ITV2 with Boots UK as the first confirmed launch partner.

The interactive system uses AI technology from The Take, a contextual product discovery company. The Take’s technology is built directly into LG TV sets in the UK and is being used for the first time in this country by ITV.

Well, that just turned me off from getting an LG TV, if this service is successful then we might see it come down under!

Don’t buy an LG unless you’re content with a power supply that dies on you after a few years.

ITV always loses out on these finals but I thought it would do a bit better than that. For me their coverage was superb - they treated it like the final of the Euros and were professional throughout, whilst for the BBC it was an English final with a very nationalist attitude with a clearly nervous Gary Lineker at the beginning and then in mourning at the end. As a Welshman ITV served me much better.

Isn’t it strange that competing networks can broadcast the same match?

It’s because BBC and ITV shared coverage of the entire Euro 2020 tournament.

It is a long standing arrangement. They used to simulcast more England matches too but since the late 90s have stuck to an agreed pick system.

Looking forward to this

Daisy May Cooper is laugh out loud funny on anything she appears in, but really with Fielding and Greg Davies this feels horribly miscast. Both are brilliant, but Buzzcocks needs to feel more current IMO.

Fielding was a team captain at the end of the previous run - I didnt mind the rotating host
