Yes - just doing a recap to close at 9:33pm
Number 1 story trending on ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX in America. Expect their breakfast shows to start covering it soon.
For what itâs worth BBC is still in rolling coverage.as is Sky Aus and Sky UK.
Another presser is coming up. So far I can only see Sky taking it live.
What for now?
Iâd say nine need Karl because their weekend team isnt good enought to cover it themselves.
Mon & Matt are more than capable of doing it themselves. Matt Doran would be alot better than Shirvo.
I assume they will have someone on the scene with others in the studio.
Iâd prefer Jayne and Karlos.
very late to this - hundreds of comments later
Wow. Unbelievable scenes. Thoughts with the victims and their families, as well as NSW Police and witnesses.
Being a Saturday daytime, always got to take your hat off to the networks and anything they can put together with no notice, let alone what theyâve achieved. Also to other media and the police. Why do these things always seem to happen on a weekend? Same with rolling coverage!
Will be interesting to see Nineâs prelim ratings for âACAâ & âInstant Familyâ / âSpace Invadersâ (a shame there wonât be one coding - unless they had time to adjust) and âBorder Securityâ & âMovie- The Mummyâ, Iâm thinking many wouldâve tuned-in, especially after seeing all the news online or if they were out. Same for ABC News channel, which should see a massive share.

One thing I would say is, I donât believe we saw anywhere near this level of coverage when that driver went crazy and mowed down multiple people in Bourke Street Mall nor the subsequent Bourke St Mall/CBD attacks including that one where a car was on fire and an iconic cafe owner was killed with Russell Crowe paying tribute.
Like Lindt in 2014, Australian televisionâs centre of Sydney seems to aid with these events in terms of coverage and they do seem to go more above and beyond, whether itâs OTT and unnecessary or justified and adds to the media reporting. Although you could say Bondi today had more instantly accessible witnesses and mobile footage or just seemed to have more relevant material available more quickly to media.
ABC News Channel still have a crew in Sydney until around 12am-1am so can still cover it.
Whoâs even speaking?
NSW acting premier
ABC News taking it now.
Special NSW/ACT edition of Nightlife now airing with Suzanne Hill on ABC Radio covering the incident.
I would hazard a guess that Karl will be on location with Jayne/Clint in the studio managing the rest of the show.
Will probably be the top story over there in the 6pm and 10pm bulletins on BBC.
Do the BBC still have an Australian correspondent?
Nine had a bit of luck tonight, with essentially nothing for most of prime time (a movie re-run in Melbourne from 7:30pm that wouldâve pulled sub-6 figures).
Although weâre only assuming the rolling special did better, it might be negligible or done worse, sometimes viewers donât want this in-your-face and given the time of the week for switching off the hard stuff, especially if already saw the overview earlier in the day or 6pm headlines.
I was going to say, itâd be very harsh and unfair to Jayne and Clint otherwise and a bad look for the struggling Weekend Today not to mention making that more glaring
Julia Bradley from Sky making appearances on Sky UK
Good job by the networks on the whole, covering a shocking story that is rarely seen in this country.
These people are human and have families too - some may have had friends or family inside the mall at the time. Whoâs to know?
The interviews, especially on 9, were occasionally harrowing. The criticism of âghoulishnessâ is just wrong. These people were happy to have their stories told. I saw some reject the media earlier in the event and they were treated with respect.
I hope the networks have their professionals on hand to debrief those involved in the coverage and I hope the journos, camos and producers use that service to talk about what they saw and get the help that is available to them.
Wonder who the major US networks will cross to when they go on air. Does Sara James still work for NBC?
Today went with Josh Letterman in their London studio.
