Binge

So does this mean that when this does eventually launch over here it will basically have all Discovery Networks content and HBO? If thats true that will be another big loss for Foxtel.

Correct.

Not sure all discovery content will be exclusive to max however. WBD have kept their linear networks in USA and many Latin and euro territories even with max existing

PRODUCTION BEGINS ON NEW AUSTRALIAN ORIGINAL

THE LAST ANNIVERSARY

TERESA PALMER, MIRANDA RICHARDSON AND DANIELLE MACDONALD LEAD A STELLAR CAST AS CAMERAS START ROLLING IN SYDNEY

BASED ON THE BEST SELLING NOVEL BY LIANE MORIARTY

BINGE today announced production has begun in Sydney on THE LAST ANNIVERSARY, a new Australian series commissioned by the Foxtel Group from award-winning production companies Blossom Films and Made Up Stories and global film and TV studio FIFTH SEASON.

As cameras start rolling, BINGE also announced the key cast set to star in the drama series, led by the highly regarded Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, The Fall Guy), Miranda Richardson (Good Omens, Spider) and Danielle Macdonald (The Tourist, Patti Cake$), with Helen Thomson (Elvis, Colin From Accounts), Susan Prior (Animal Kingdom, Puberty Blues), Claude Scott-Mitchell (The Dry, Hotel Portofino), Charlie Garber (Barons, The Outlaw Michael Howe), Uli Latukefu (Young Rock, Next Goal Wins) and Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (Force of Nature: The Dry 2, Puberty Blues).

Based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, THE LAST ANNIVERSARY is a wickedly funny, heartfelt dramedy wrapped in a gripping mystery about family, motherhood and the women who define the generations that come after them. Samantha Strauss serves as head writer, with John Polson directing all six episodes.

THE LAST ANNIVERSARY is set on Scribbly Gum Island, a place of many secrets. The one that made it famous – the disappearance of a young couple decades ago – might have made the island a destination for true crime tourists but when it comes to secrets, the three generations of women that call Scribbly Gum home hold far more.

When Sophie Honeywell (Palmer) inherits a house on the island, left only to her by her ex-boyfriend’s great-aunt Connie, it’s the fresh start she’s craving, despite the unwelcome reception she receives on arrival. Single and approaching 40, Sophie is intrigued by something else Connie left her – a promise that she might finally find the man of her dreams on Scribbly Gum Island. But perhaps what Sophie needs is an island full of women instead?

Bruna Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky are executive producing and Casey Haver co-executive producing for Made Up Stories with Per Saari and Nicole Kidman executive producing for Blossom Films alongside Alison Hurbert-Burns and Lana Greenhalgh for BINGE. Strauss, Polson and Liane Moriarty are executive producers. Sarah L. Walker serves as script producer.

Executive Director BINGE and Commissioning & Content Foxtel Group*,* Alison Hurbert-Burns*,* said: “We are delighted that production is underway on BINGE’s newest Australian Original series, THE LAST ANNIVERSARY, a collaboration with Made Up Stories and Blossom Films. This wonderfully crafted story takes us to the water, to the bush and brings new corners of Australia to the screen. We’re looking forward to our audience escaping with us to Scribbly Gum Island and getting lost in the family mystery that ensues.”

Made Up Stories and Blossom Films said: “We couldn’t be more excited to roll cameras on THE LAST ANNIVERSARY, which is the next chapter in the long-standing creative relationship between Made Up Stories, Blossom Films and Liane Moriarty. Samantha Strauss has brought Liane’s novel to life in such a heartwarming and cinematic way, with our long-time friend John Polson at the helm. We’re so pleased to be filming the series here in NSW, Australia with our brilliant cast and crew and backed by our incredible partners.”

Minister for the Arts, John Graham, said: “The series adaptation of the best-selling novel THE LAST ANNIVERSARY by our very own Liane Moriarty is an excellent example of supporting our home-grown talent. I am pleased to see Australian stories on our screens that have been made right here in NSW, supporting more than 260 jobs and injecting over $26 million into the local economy.”

THE LAST ANNIVERSARY is a co-production between Made Up Stories, Blossom Films and FIFTH SEASON. FIFTH SEASON handles worldwide rights to the series. The series is supported by the NSW Government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.

THE LAST ANNIVERSARY is commissioned by the Foxtel Group for BINGE and will also be available on Foxtel.

Gotta say this looks really interesting and Foxtel is more committed to Australian content then our little free to air networks.

They have the benefit of monetizing this across Binge + Foxtel, so it’s probably more economical now. No different to P+10, and to a slightly lesser extend with some co-commissions between Stan/9 which both have commissioned a number of decent dramas.

Seven on the other hand, if it ain’t H&A or RFDS, they’ll keep wasting money on failed reality formats.

They had heaps of potential in being a producer with Seven Studios. They could have sold overseas and to streaming and monetise that way. Shame it all went down the toilet (mostly)

FIRST LOOK AT NEW THRILLER

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR

STARRING SAM HEUGHAN

PREMIERES 1 DECEMBER ON BINGE

First look at the new six-part thriller The Couple Next Door*,* starring Sam Heughan (Outlander), premieres 1 December on BINGE, with new episodes dropping weekly.

The Couple Next Door is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the stultifying claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your darkest desires.

In addition to Heughan, the series also stars Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), Australian Actress Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man from Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter, How To Get Away with Murder).

When Evie (Tomlinson) and Pete (Enoch) move into an upscale neighbourhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety. Soon, they find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Heughan) and his wife, wellness hottie Becka (De Gouw). But before they know it, things get very out of control.

Loosely adapted from the Dutch series New Neighbours the series is written by David Allison (Marcella, Bedlam), directed by award winning director Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T), Series Produced by Jen Burnet, and is Executive Produced by Jo McGrath, Walter Iuzzolino and Alison Kee. The series is produced by Eagle Eye Drama and distributed worldwide by its international partner Beta Film.

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR premieres on Friday 1 December on BINGE and on Showcase at 830pm and is available On Demand.

Given the position of WBD right now I’m not convinced they will launch in 2025, WBD is also relicensing WB and older HBO content to Netflix in the US, or at least in discussion to do so.

I don’t think every studio having their own exclusive streaming service brings in the same $$ in the long term vs licensing output deals. I’d predict that we will see content aggregators pick up market share in the longer term as this realisation sets in.

FIRST LOOK AT NEW COMEDY SERIES

SMOTHERED

PREMIERES 7 DECEMBER ON BINGE

FROM ROUGHCUT TV AND CREATED BY MONICA HEISEY

First look trailer for the new comedy series Smothered, created by Monica Heisey (Workin’ Moms, Schitt’s Creek), has been released ahead of its 7 December premiere on BINGE, with all six-episodes dropping at once.

Will they? Won’t they? Should they? Shouldn’t they? Starring Danielle Vitalis (I May Destroy You, Black Mirror) and Jon Pointing (Big Boys), Smothered is a tale of two worlds colliding, where romance blossoms but the pressures of modern dating linger.

Sammy (Vitalis) is a fiercely independent young woman who is done with dating apps, sick of immature men, and here for a good time. Tom (Pointing) has never been inclined to swipe left or right; he’s a settled man with a warm heart but carries his fair share of baggage. On a night out, the two strangers meet, and end up singing out their drunken souls in a karaoke booth. Then the inevitable happens. (They hook up).

What seems like a great idea at the time, the strangers agree to have a no strings attached affair for three weeks – but on the condition that they never speak again. What was supposed to be a few weeks of great sex, pasta in bed and first names only, the sparks flying around them cannot be ignored. But Sammy soon makes a shocking discovery that there is another woman in Tom’s life… his six-year-old daughter Ellie.

The series also stars Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Mercury Prize nominee Rebecca Lucy Taylor, also known as Self Esteem, Blair Underwood (Sex and the City, LA Law), Rizzlekick’s Jordan Stephens, TikTok stars Harry Trevaldwyn and Coco Sarel, and Lisa Hammond (Eastenders). Smothered is produced by the multi award-winning Roughcut TV.

SMOTHERED premieres Thursday December 7 on BINGE and on FOX8 on Friday December 8 at 730pm and available On Demand.

OFFICIAL TRAILER AND KEY ART FOR NEW EVENT SERIES

TED

FROM AWARD-WINNING CREATOR SETH MACFARLANE

PREMIERES 11 JANUARY ON BINGE

The official trailer and key art for the new event series Ted, from award-winning creator Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), has been released ahead of its 11 January premiere on BINGE, with all seven-episodes dropping at once.

In addition to MacFarlane, the series also stars Max Burkholder (Parenthood), Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Scott Grimes (American Dad!) and Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher).

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Grimes and Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

OFFICIAL TRAILER AND KEY ART RELEASED FOR

LEO REICH: LITERALLY WHO CARES?!

PREMIERES 18 DECEMBER ON BINGE

The official trailer and key art for the new comedy special Leo Reich: Literally Who Cares?!, has been released ahead of its 18 December debut on BINGE. Following rave reviews at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and an Off-Broadway run, the special from A24 taped at EartH in London this fall.

Hot. Young. Cool. Fresh. Ripped. Hilarious. Groundbreaking. Avant-garde. These are just some of the words that comedian and writer Leo Reich uses to describe himself. In his first comedy special, this self-diagnosed important young mind faces the swirling uncertainty of our collective future, asking the big questions, such as: “Is this helping?", “Am I hot?”, and “No offence guys but literally what is going on?”

Treading the line between hilarious stand-up and humourless performance art, Leo Reich: Literally Who Cares?! blends songs, anecdotes, and anxious non-sequiturs in a valiant attempt to raise awareness about important social and political causes… or something.

Reich is a comedian and writer. His smash debut show “Literally Who Cares?!” was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2022 Dave Comedy Awards, Most Outstanding Show at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and culminated in an Off-Broadway run in New York and sold-out show at EartH.

A24 production; written and performed by Leo Reich; directed by Thomas Hardiman; producers, Bríd Kirby and Chris Quaile; executive producers, A24 and Leo Reich; songs composed by Toby Marlow.

LEO REICH: LITERALLY WHO CARES?! premieres Monday December 18 on BINGE and Saturday 30 December on FOX8 at 10pm and is available On Demand.

PREMIERE DATE AND KEY ART FOR NEW SEASON OF

RYAN MURPHY’S AWARD-WINNING LIMITED SERIES

FEUD: CAPOTE VS THE SWANS

PREMIERES 1 FEBRUARY ON BINGE

The premiere date of 1 February along with the official key art for the eight-episode second season of Ryan Murphy’s award-winning anthology Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, has been released ahead of its highly anticipated debut on BINGE.

The series, based on the bestselling book ‘Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era’ by Laurence Leamer, stars an ensemble cast including Tom Hollander, Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Treat Williams, Joe Mantello and Russell Tovey.

Acclaimed writer Truman Capote (Hollander) surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society New York – whom he nicknamed “the swans.” Beautiful and distinguished, the group included grande dame Barbara “Babe” Paley (Watts), Slim Keith (Lane), C.Z. Guest (Sevigny) and Lee Radziwill (Flockhart). Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalisation of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets.

When an excerpt from the book, ‘Answered Prayers,’ Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society he so loved and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.

Written for television by Jon Robin Baitz, Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans was directed by Gus Van Sant, Max Winkler and Jennifer Lynch. The show is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, Baitz, Van Sant, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Naomi Watts, Eric Kovtun and Scott Robertson. It is produced by 20th Television.

FEUD: CAPOTE VS THE SWANS premieres on Thursday 1 February on BINGE and on Showcase at 930pm and is available On Demand.
