There is no established rule that the executive producer always voices Big Brother. Peter Abbott only put his hand up because Network Ten complained that British people were voicing the iconic character.
Once Peter left and other EPs took over during Ten’s run, they never voiced Big Brother. As far as I know, the “mean” Big Brother was voiced by Nick Coloquhoun, and the playful Big Brother that started in BB08 and returned for all of Nine’s series was Leon Murray.
Yes, obviously there would be other shift producers who would act as Big Brother during the so-called “off-peak” hours or when the show wasn’t live. Sometimes you would hear these people on the show, but in the later years and especially into the Channel 9 and 7 years you would only ever hear the main voice (perhaps dubbed over).
I was about to ask if the BB’s voice was always blasted through loud speakers in the house, or if the housemates heard the producers’ real voice first, before the main voice was added in post-production.
They should really communicate the Uncut decision before the casting call goes out and make it clear. I’m sure the nudity element stops a lot of great candidates from applying to be on the show.
@bigbrotherau has revealed (addressing speculation from people in the Live Chat regarding livestreaming software) they are using OBS Studio, an open-source livestreaming program, to livestream their Network 10-era series marathons. Hence why there were some audio issues at the start of each episode at times.
I know, because I’ve used OBS Studio too in the past, and I could notice this when transitioning between clips during livestreams.
It doesn’t have to be about nudity though. It could show conversations with swearing for example or even topics that can’t be discussed in a 7:30pm timeslot. It’s a shame it isn’t returning.
That’s what it was on the Ten version. Conversations that couldn’t go to air on the daily shows but mixed in with nudity from around the house and showering in the first week or so.
I saw / heard the promo yesterday and don’t think it’s Mike, it’s definitely a different sounding voiceover for 10 and I can see some similarities but fairly confident it’s not him.
Grubby, really? All the contestants were informed that they would be recorded 24/7 and they knew nudity would be fair game. If the housemates didn’t want to expose themselves they didn’t have to. Plenty didn’t and showered with bathers and clothes.
Uncut provided a much needed insight to see all facets of a housemate, no not just the physical aspects. Often times the daily show pushed a producer fed narrative and showed the most mundane conversations. Uncut wasn’t just about turkey slaps and Sarah Marie pouring a drink with her tit, you saw verbal fights and insights into people and aspects of life that you wouldn’t ordinarily see on tv or see spoken about out loud.
I can’t believe any show on FTA could be labelled grubby in that sense at this time when you have Insta hos flashing their wares and baiting people for clicks and and cash and we won’t even mention Onlyfans.
