The amphitheatre is gone too.

Should’ve been turned into a museum

Unfortunately unless Ch10 or SBS do BB, it’ll be the same shit that Ch9 dished up

Surely I can’t be the only one who has comparisons between oil and water coming to mind about the possibility of Big Brother on Seven?

The format just needs to rest in peace already. Sure, BB was popular for Ten some 15 years or more ago but the landscape has changed heaps since the Early-Mid 2000s. A new decade of television needs new formats which are at a level of innovativeness currently not seen in Australia.

If any network is going to do this again they need to go with the American format. At least it’s a point of difference as I can’t see any point to doing the same version a third time. They could even re-brand it as Head of Household or Big Brother: Head of Household or something. The success of Survivor shows that there are Aussie audiences that are interested in strategical and game playing reality shows so it might be able to work. I just can’t see it on any network other than Ten though. It is not the right fit for Seven.

I think it needs to be produced in the style of the old Australian show (5-6 nights a week - fly on the wall, observational style) but with the gameplay-format of the American show (to encourage gameplay as well as conflict as they have to vote one another off and are allowed to strategise about voting, nominations, ect)

For those who don’t watch, the American BB is basically edited like a cartoon. The housemates are all wacky and crazy - I doubt that will fly here.

If you need a quick summary for what the American BB is like: https://youtu.be/XV0tLEr6deE

I don’t think this is the right move for 7. Want younger viewers? Try something fresh. Not an outdated format.

It feels like the American one is definitely made to appeal to a younger audience. The way the contestants talk in the confessionals does my head in. It’s like they are constantly yelling or speaking at volume 100. The tasks too are very cheesey and like playing kids games. The strategical element though is pretty intense it’s like 24/7 locked in a house constant strategy, they drive themselves insane.

Isn’t that just how Americans speak?

game show formats have been revived, revivals are a thing for tv. american idol has recently been revived. this show deserves another chance.

…and have been axed again after viewers realised why the original ended in the first place!

Although thankfully, they aren’t as big of a trend as they were around the 2008-12 timeframe.

How many revived programs have gone onto enjoy new success? Very few I would say.

If Seven does revive Big Brother Australia, I think it’d probably meet a similar fate to the one that Australia’s Got Talent did this year: Average ratings which aren’t really high enough to justify a renewal.

I disagree. tge last reboot botched it. 90 minute episodes every night was overkill.
It needs to go back to the old format Ten had and utilise the multichannel, social media, apps WITH Live streaming.

It has a chance but I fear 7 won’t do it justice and will kill it even further

As I have said before if I were 7 I would ditch the reality and go for drama at 7:30. There audience liked it, the drama resonated with the Australian audience and it was reliable and consistent. Get a medical ā€˜soap’ and air it 7:30 or 8:30 weeknights. Do a police drama and a more family friendly family drama.

So revive All Saints, Blue heelers and Rafters?

100% agree. 10 also botched it with the Kyle and Jackie O version which was a far cry from its original self.

Bring back the original format, tone, casting nuances (just ordinary people) and Gretal - update it for the digital and multi channel age and put it on 10 and suddenly 10 have enough content to fill thier schedule.

Channel 7 will do a shit job and further destroy the brand.

Survivor Australia. The Block. X Factor.

Each network has had a revival story in the past.

they definitely have a chance to modernise the format. considering the capabilities of the internet, a 24/7 live stream is more capable than it ever has been in the past. apps can help as well for viewers to tune in - a notification can be sent out if drama is happening right then in the stream, so they don’t have to wait for a nightly show. social media, streaming and good marketing can help big brother become immersive as not just as a tv show, but a platform in itself.
